Over 1.8 million men and women have died so that we can live in a free nation, but along with this great sacrifi ce also comes a tremendous responsibility. How can we as Americans truly honor those who have died while securing our freedoms? The recent scandal in the Veterans Administration concerning health benefi ts for our soldiers is a reminder that the power to control government is in the hands of the electorate. We need to vote for people who will not choose expediency over doing the right thing. It is a shame that we push aside those who sacrifi ce for our nation to cater to those who have chosen to live in our land illegally. In my opinion, if a person does not responsibly desire to become a citizen then they should be sent back to the place from which they came. The men and women who fought in battlefi elds on our own soil and around the world, fought so that people could have the freedom to worship without government intrusion. As Americans, we must honor their sacrifi ce by electing public offi cials who will not tread on religious freedoms. It is a shame that we are removing any reference to the Creator God out of every facet of our lives including our schools and public arenas, while again catering to special interest groups which are anti-Christian. I believe that the 1.8 million soldiers who died for our country should be honored by upholding the freedoms in which they died for. We must be vigilant to make sure that the fl ag which draped their casket still stands for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Let us strive to keep America a great nation and honor those who have made it great.
