Orpheus Theatre to present ‘Sugar’ Orpheus Theatre will present “Sugar,” the musical version of the film “Some Like it Hot,” this weekend at the Goodrich Theatre, SUNY Oneonta. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14, as well as at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15. The show tells the story of Joe (Michael Valinoti) and Jerry (Mark Durkee), two musi- cians who need an “out” after witnessing the St. Valentine’s Day shooting of some Chicago gangsters. They join an all-girl band to make their escape and meet Sugar Kane (Sarah Lynn Serafin.) Others in cast are Carol Dean, Owen Ayre, James Iversen, Sienna Averett, Julia Baxter- MacGregor, Donald Beetlestone, Debra Brennesholt, Benjamin Burke, Jaclyn Courter, Celeste Gaetano, Erik Gonzalez, Robert Gug- liuzzo, Zach Harris, Wendell Lee, Kathleen Mami-Moore, Jeffrey Moore, Kevin Oettinger, Gary E. Oak to host music, food The Black Oak Tavern, 17 Water St. in Oneonta, will host Eat, Drink and Be Merry on Saturday, May 14. Slammin’ Doris will perform at 9:30 p.m., with food from Cosmos and Stella Luna Ris- torante. The event also will feature prizes from Ommegang and Cosmos. Smithy to open season The Smithy Pioneer Gallery will open its summer season at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 19, with “Memory & Presence,” featuring oil paintings, draw- ings and sketches by Margaret Krug. Auditions set for ‘Animal Farm’ Catskill Theatre Works will hold auditions for its summer musical, “Animal Farm” at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14; and at 7 p.m. Mon- day, May 16, and Friday, May 20. Auditions will be at the Orpheus Theatre rehearsal space, 99 Main St. in Oneonta. The show, a musical adaptation of George Orwell’s novel, will be performed at Delaware Academy July 22-24. There are a variety of roles available for men and women of all ages, as well as for a boy narrator, age 10 to 14 years old. Actors should come to the audition prepared to sing a short musical piece. The May 14 audition will be devoted primarily to read- ings and movement. The May 16 and May 20 auditions will include readings, movement and music.
