2 • May 11 - 17, 2014 TVWeek By Kate Ellis TV Media E veryone loves a good fairy tale, especially those filled with magic, adventure and true love. Fans of ABC's "Once Upon a Time" know well that this show comes with all three, and then some. Catch the two-hour season 3 finale on Sun- day, May 11, on ABC. "Once Upon a Time" follows everyone's favor- ite fairy tale characters, from Snow White to Ariel to Captain Hook — and many traditional heroes and villains in between. The show has taken place in the Enchanted Forest, Neverland, Oz, Wonder- land — all the best places fairy tales have to offer. Jennifer Morrison ("House M.D.") stars as Emma Swan, the only daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin, "Walk the Line," 2005) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas, "Thor," 2011). Just after her birth, Emma was sent away as the only hope to one day save the kingdom from Regina (Lana Parrilla, "Miami Medical"), the evil queen who cast a curse that transported all of the king- dom's inhabitants to Storybrooke with no memory of who they really are. Rounding out the town's main characters are Belle (Emilie de Ravin, "Lost"), Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle, "SGU Stargate Universe"), Little Red Riding Hood (Meghan Ory, "Intelligence"), Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue, "The Rite," 2011) and Emma's long-lost biological son, but also Regina's adoptive son, Henry (Jared Gilmore, "Mad Men"). In the mid-season finale, we left the characters just after they defeated Peter Pan (Robbie Kay, "Pi- rates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," 2011) in Neverland, and Regina had just cast a new curse to send all of the characters back to their homes in the Enchanted Forest. Emma and Henry — who are of this world, not the Enchanted Forest — would not be going back with them, but instead to a new life filled with fake memories of their life together in New York. The mid-season premiere featured Hook help- ing Emma get her memories back in order to save her family, who had been transported back to Sto- rybrooke with no memories of the last year. That's where Zelena the Wicked Witch (Rebecca Mader, "Lost") comes in. Zelena, who is also Re- gina's half-sister, has cast a curse to exact revenge on Regina, who had everything Zelena never had: proper magic training, their mother and power. The characters must team up (once again) to fight evil and save their families, this time from Zelena, also known as the Wicked Witch. This season's finale will bring a close to all of the wicked drama that Zelena brought when she cast the curse. The title of the two-hour season finale is "There's No Place Like Home," which could mean our favorite fairy tale characters are finally reunited with their home in the Enchanted Forest. Alternatively, it could mean that they come to love Storybrooke and finally call it their home. Rumors hint, however, that Zelena may not have been the only person to cast the curse. "We're going to go back and find out who cast this curse," said Josh Dallas at WonderCon 2014 last month. "So that's going to be great. You're going to know who cast the curse, you're going to know why we're all back and why none of us remember that missing year." "I'm really glad we get to go back to Oz again," teased Mader, also at WonderCon. "We get a lot of stuff in Oz, and we get to meet Glinda [played by Sunny Mabrey, "Memphis Beat"] any minute now. Glinda and Dorothy are coming. So, that was re- ally fun. That felt like we were in a whole different TV show. It just felt like 'Once Upon a Time in Oz.' There's really fun stuff coming up with that." There may also be mention of the Tin-Man, Lion and Scarecrow coming in the series, as Zelena has taken Regina's heart, Charming's courage and Rumplestiltskin's brain. At WonderCon, Dallas mentioned something that may hint at who re- ally cast the curse. "There's going to be a decision made back in Fairy Tale Land, between Regina, Snow and Charming, that's going to affect every- one," he said. Fans are wondering if Henry will ever get his memories of Storybrooke and his family back. "Henry's memory issues will be decided before the end of the season," series co-creator Adam Horowitz told TVLine. "One way or another." Throughout the second half of season 3, Zelena has tried to get close to Snow's unborn baby, and when she failed, she divulged her plans to take the baby for wicked purposes. Now that the infant is born, the town is on red alert and ready to protect the little one from Zelena. Speculation from Belle and her research hints that Zelena needs the baby to complete the first- ever successful time-traveling curse. Her plan involves making sure Snow, Emma, Henry and Regina were never born. Some of the show's storyline has mirrored real life, as much as a story about fairy tale characters can. It seems true love isn't only for the characters of the show — Goodwin and Dallas (Snow White and Prince Charming) recently tied the knot and are expecting their first child. The two met and fell in love on set, and Goodwin's pregnancy was writ- ten into season 3. The show has been renewed for a fourth sea- son, and there is already some buzz about what's to come. Rumor has it that there may be a "Fro- zen" connection in the new season. "We would be completely honored if Kristen Bell or Idina Menzel wanted to do our show," co- series creator Eddy Kitsis recently told E! Online. To make the rumor even better, Bell ("Veronica Mars"), who voiced Anna in Disney's "Frozen" (2013), said she might be interested. "That would be unbelievable," Bell told E! Online. "I love that character of Anna so much, she's so exactly who I wanted to see when I was five years old, so she's really close to my heart."
