Carr. This week PAWS is featuring a debu- tante named Nancy, who showed up on the Reagan's doorstep one morning and they knew they needed to find a home for her, but not before giving her the name Nancy. It turned out to be quite a good name for the young feline as she has many of the characteristics of the former first lady. Nancy is very eloquent, and wants to look her best, and has a very confident air about her. She likes to perch herself on the desk in the office and read what- ever reading material is left there. She is a beautiful long-haired tabby with hues of black and apricot fur, and has a plumed tail that she carries high over her back. Nancy would prefer being the only cat. She is approximately one year old, spayed and ready for adoption. To adopt Nancy, call 812-354-9894. this week PaWs is featuring a beautiful long-haired tabby, who is very eloquent, has a confident air about her, and is hoping to catch someone's attention and be adopted. to adopt nancy, call 812-354- 9894. abUnDant life UniteD Pentecostal chUrch 409 south fourth st. "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all persever- ance and supplication for all saints" (Ephesians 6:18). Perseverance in prayer can be a challenge. A dear friend taught me some great lessons about prayer. She never gave up on her prayers. She never seemed anxious or questioned whether God heard her. She was persistent, patient, and confident. She was wise enough to know what I am still learning: God answers prayers in His time, not ours. When she went to be with the Lord, I thought about all those unanswered prayers. Then I realized the truth: just because she is with the Lord doesn't mean He has stopped answering the prayers she prayed. I saw one of those answers re- cently. Her perseverance in prayer then is still making a difference today. Father, may I persevere in prayer and trust Your timing. Taken in part from Open Windows. See you in church next Sunday. Paul understood that sin binds those who have not found Christ so they think there is no way out of their sin, guilt and shame. But as Jesus said, He came to give sight to the blind, so they can see Him and find free- dom. As we share Him through our words and actions, we shine the light of His truth and freedom into the world's darkness, and echo His mes- sage and missions. "I am the light of the world. Mother with a mission Catherine Booth, wife of Salvation Army founder William Booth, was said to have read the Bible through eight times before age 12. In 1855, she married William, a Methodist minister, keeping the wedding simple so more money could go toward min- istry. Breaking with tradition, Catherine became active in the church, speaking in meetings and giving pub- lic testimony. While raising eight children, she raised funds for her work, which included helping alcoholics get their lives on track. Upon her death, this "Mother of the Salvation Army" received high praise from her husband. "To me she has been made of God, never-failing sympathy, re- liable wisdom and unvar- nished truth," said William Booth. She is not a door- mat, but a woman of strong character, great wisdom, many skills, and great com- passion. Her strength and dignity don't come from her amazing achievements but from her reverence for God. In our world, much em- phasis is placed on physi- cal appearance but the at- tractiveness of the Prov- erbs 31 woman comes en- tirely from her character. This is the kind of woman God desires. "But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle word they speak" (Matthew 12:36). An idle word is a word that is useless. It's a word that does nothing. If it does any- thing at all, it usually hurts somebody. To a large de- gree, the lives we have now are the results of thoughts we've meditated on in the past and words we've spo- ken. It's not due to bad luck or the devil. Much of it is re- lated to the way we think and speak. If we realize we're think- ing fruitless thoughts, we can change our thoughts by speaking what we want to think. For example, if I find myself thinking people don't treat me right, I can inter- rupt that thought pattern by thinking and speaking, the people in my life are not per- fect, but I am not either, and I am blessed in many ways. Choose wise thoughts and words. Choose to speak pos- itive, faith-filled words that agree with God. Hope to see you in Church. Mark Davis, Pastor Greg Davis, Assoc. Sunday morning 10 a.m.; Sunday evening Bible study 6 p.m.; Sunday evening youth ministry 6 p.m. at Es- teem Coffee Shop on Main Street. the story continues "The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given command- ments to the apostles whom He had chosen" (Acts 1:1-2). "You are our epistle writ- ten in our hearts, known and read by all men" (II Corin- thians 3:2). The writer of Acts was Luke. He had written the Gospel of Luke detailing the life of Jesus and he con- tinues the story with the life and ministry of the Apostles. Jesus made a statement in the book of John 14... "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And what- ever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Fa- ther may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." So, if we believe on Jesus, we can do what He did and greater because He goes to the Father. Why does that matter? Because 10 days after Jesus ascended in- to heaven, He sent the Ho- ly Spirit so that we could be baptized in Him and re- ceive power to do the things Jesus did and on a greater scale because Jesus could only be in one place at a time while on earth. Now with the power of the Holy Spirit fill- ing His church, we can be Je- sus all over the earth at the same time! The point is that the story of Acts didn't stop with chap- ter 28. We are the living epis- tles or letters of our Lord to the earth. The story of what God is doing in the earth continues with us, His body. We contin- ue the work that the Apos- tles started in the Book of Acts and we take His love, power, and message to peo- ple of the world. Let's go and tell the mes- sage of His love to everyone!
