Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center has re- ceived an Excellence Award for Clinical Care from VHA Inc., the national health care network. The award recognizes Memorial Hos- pital and Health Care Cen- ter's achievement of excep- tionally high levels of perfor- mance in clinical care when compared to national bench- marks. The award was pre- sented on Sunday, April 27, 2014, during VHA's national Navigating to Excellence Fo- rum, in Las Vegas. "We are honored that our commitment to quality pa- tient care is recognized by VHA, Inc. We're also thank- ful for the commitment of our staff to the compassion- ate care they provide each day," said Kyle Bennett, Ex- ecutive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. To determine the winners of their Clinical Care Award, VHA used cost, length of stay, readmission and clin- ical outcome data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to determine an integrated performance score for each of its member hospitals. In addition to scoring above the 90th percentile, as com- pared to other VHA mem- bers, the hospital must also have participated in a VHA improvement program in 2013. Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center was one of four acute care hos- pitals (with less than 250 beds) recognized for their excellence. VHA is a national network serving more than 5,100 health system members and affiliates that work together to achieve new levels of clin- ical performance and opera- tional efficiency. By recog- nizing institutions for their commitment and achieve- ments, VHA hopes that oth- er health systems will apply these leading practices in their own organizations to further enhance the over- all level of quality in our na- tion's health care system.
