4.5 inches) but did not place. Jasper won the 11-team meet with a team score of 129.5 points, fol- lowed by Mount Vernon (92.5 points), Princeton (65.5), Boonville (48.5), Vincennes Lincoln (48), Pike Cen- tral (42), Evansville Mater Dei (34), Washington (24), Wood Memorial (6), North Posey (6) and Tecumseh (0). Charger head coach Chris K ram- er said afterward that the cold weath- er, the temperature at the start of the meet was 50 degrees and quickly dropped into the mid-40's, had an im- pact on most, if not all, of the meet's participants. " The cold conditions especially didn't help the sprinters for any team but our distance kids were still just a few seconds from their personal- best times," K ramer said. "Dameon Fulcher (1,600) and Earl Townsend (3,200) were both close to their fast- est times of the year." Pike Central, which participated in the Pioneer Relays at Boonville on Tuesday, May 5, will compete in the Pocket Athletic Conference Cham- pionships at Tell City on Thursday, May 15. time of 37:55. Stetter led off the third inning with a single to left field and ad- vanced to third when Brewer fol- lowed with a single to right field. A fter Brewer stole second base, Meyer doubled to left field, driv- ing in Stetter and Brewer to give the Raiders a 4-0 lead. Mattingly followed with a single to right field, scoring Meyer to ex- tend Southridge's lead to 5 -0. The Raiders added a pair of un- earned runs in the fifth inning, on a two-out single by Meyer, to take a 7-0 lead before Colton White was relieved by junior Clint Craig at the start of the sixth inning. Clint Craig pitched the final two innings, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits while striking out one. Southridge got the lead-off man on base in each of the game's first five innings, three of whom scored. In addition, four of the Raiders' 10 runs were scored on two-out hits. "We really didn't give up one big inning," Whitehead said afterward. "They just consistently got that lead-off man on and would execute and come up with a big hit. They hit the ball, top to bottom, and had some clutch hitting at times." "It wasn't like our pitching was bad," Whitehead added. "They did a good job of executing what they needed to go." Colton White took the loss for the Chargers, allowing seven runs, five of which were earned, on 10 hits while striking out two in four innings. Whitehead said that he was dis- appointed in the fact that Pike Cen- tral committed five fielding errors, which led to three unearned runs. " T hose errors really didn't have that much of an effect on the game," Whitehead said. "Howev- er, if we take those errors out, and we execute with the bats a little bit and things fall in, then that chang- es the game up quite a bit." "It didn't influence the game, but it very well could have," Whitehead added. "So we need to make sure we do a little bit better job. They were really unforced errors. That's my concern." Pike Central, which hosted Gib- son Southern on Tuesday, May 6, will play five straight road games, traveling to Shoals on Wednesday, May 7, to Tecumseh on Thursday, May 8, to Forest Park on Saturday, May 10, to North Posey on Mon- day, May 12, and to Barr-Reeve on Tuesday, May 12, before returning home to host Vincennes Lincoln on Friday, May 16. "I think this is a key part of our season," W hitehead said. " We have some adversity right now and we have young kids. So how we bounce back and go on the road is very key right now, because it's not always about winning and los- ing. It's about how we continue to approach getting better and com- ing back from a loss like that and be more consistent." "Being on the road, that's going to be a challenge," Whitehead add- ed. "But with pitching and things like that, that will always give us an opportunity in a game." DEADLINES submit all sports scores, information and photos by 5 p.m. monday. "It consists of various dif- ferent medley relays along with normal field events and a few normal relays. This meet gives us an opportunity to mix some girls around and run them in different events. It is a fun meet for the girls as well as a good 'training' meet. The girls get a good workout in at these types of meets. Overall, the girls did well, finishing fourth as a team."
