Even XXXXX, XXXXX XX, 2013 | TAB NAME Odd 2 TV ENCORE By Cassie Dresch TV Media T he streets of London are about to be hijacked by every- one's favorite (former) CTU agent. After a four-year hiatus — both in the show's time and in ours — Jack Bauer is back at it in England's capital city, still a fugitive after the happenings of Day 8. Trouble seems to have a way of finding Jack, and nothing has changed this go-around as "24: Live Another Day" airs its long-awaited premiere Monday, May 5, on Fox. The last time we saw Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland, "Touch") he was the newly appointed Public Enemy No. 1 for both the American and Russian governments. Still reeling from the deaths of his lover, Renee (Annie Wersching, "General Hospital"), and of the Kamistani president, Omar Hassan (Anil Kapoor, "Slumdog Millionaire," 2008), Jack was determined to exact revenge on everyone involved in their murders and in the subsequent coverups by American and Russian govern- ment officials — including U.S. President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones, "Signs," 2002). Hunted by the Russians for murdering high-ranking govern- ment officials and wanted by the Graybeals Carpet 2 x 3" Young's Culligan 3 x 3" Harrison- Merzger 2 x 2" On the Cover Americans for going on an unau- thorized killing spree, Jack is forced to flee the country he has spent his life serving in order to protect himself and his family. As Day 8 fades to black and Jack Bauer disappears into obscurity, the show's timer counts down (instead of up, like usual) to 00:00:00. With that, it seemed like we had seen the end of Jack Bauer. It was always bandied about that maybe, possibly, some day there could be a feature film about "24" but, realistically, it looked like Jack was now just dust in the wind. How wrong was that assump- tion? Jack is back for a special-event series of the Emmy award-win- ning spy drama. Over the course of 12 one-hour episodes (the premiere will feature back-to- back new episodes), viewers will get to watch as this heroic for- mer CTU agent resurfaces after four years on the run from the American and Russian govern- ments. He pops up across the pond in historic London, England, where he hears of a plot to assassinate the new U.S. presi- dent — his old contentious counterpart, James Heller (William Devane, "Knots Landing"). Jack being Jack, he wants to protect the commander-in-chief and avert a global disaster (and maybe save the father of his for- mer lover), but, of course, not everything is as it seems. The thrilling story spirals from there. "The response to '24' is unlike anything I have ever experienced as an actor before," Sutherland said in a Fox news brief. "To have the chance to reunite with the character, Jack Bauer, is like find- ing a lost friend." He won't be without some help on his quest to quell terror- ism, though. Coming to his aid is another former CTU agent who turned against the government that failed both her and Jack; she's been working underground since Jack disappeared. Cheeky hacker Chloe O'Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub, "Veronica's Closet") returns to once again fight alongside Jack, with not only a new outlook on life, but a new punk rocker chick vibe, too. "She really is such a key part of this show," Fox's executive VP of marketing Laurel Bernard told "The Hollywood Reporter." "She's easily recognizable, and whenever we do research about the show, people call her out by name." The nine lives of Jack Bauer: '24' returns to Fox with a special series event Also slated to return for Day 9 is Jack's old flame and daughter of President Heller, Audrey Raines (Kim Raver, "Grey's Anatomy"). She's been out of the "24" pic- ture for a while now — she was last seen practically comatose after being tortured by Chinese agents in season 6 — but she's back and doing better than ever, and has even settled down with a new husband, Heller's chief of staff. Some new faces will be crop- ping up in this latest installment of the "24" franchise. Benjamin Bratt ("Miss Congeniality," 2000) and Yvonne Strahovski ("Chuck") will appear as CIA boss Steve Navarro and ruthless CIA agent Kate Morgan, respec- tively. They'll be part of the team tracking Jack, hoping to hold him accountable for his actions towards the end of Day 8, despite all of his previous service to his country.
