Three groups were involved; The Matthew Pannell Shining Star Foundation, the Chase High School Wrestling Team and the youth/parents of The Barn Christian Fellowship worked for over three and a half hours picking up trash along Chase High Road, South 221A Highway and S. Pea Ridge Road. Over 70 bags of trash were collected and they are to be commended for their hard work. The community program was sponsored by Harrelson Funeral Home and a donation of fi ve hundred dollars was made to each of the three groups. Well over 150 man hours was put into making our roadways look beautiful and litter free once again. Thank you also to Chad Roach and PaPa Johns Pizza for providing lunch for the group. It was a wonderful morning and a lot of good was done! Sad to say though, that on Sunday morning on my way to church my heart sank as I saw fast food bags and cups, plastic grocery bags and beer bottles had already began to litter the freshly cleaned roadways. My question is to all the Sheriff candidates, "What are your plans to stop the wave of littering in Rutherford County?" We really do need a real solution to this contemptible epidemic. Cheers to all those who care enough to properly dispose of their trash and Jeers to all those individuals who for some reason think the county roadways are their personal trash can. Let us all take pride in our beautiful landscape!
