R.o.B.S. It’s hard to tell what’s true these days. Take a gan- der below, and guess if A. and B. are Real or B.S. (Answers at the bottom of the page.) A. Thief makes off with shell of a Mustang MODESTO, Calif. _ An enterpris- ing _ or perhaps desperate _ thief made off with what can barely be described as a car in the Elk Park neighborhood of Modesto on Palm Sunday weekend. Denny Reyna, 29, reported the theft to police Sunday morning, when he awoke and saw only cinder blocks in his driveway where a 1965 Mustang had previously rested. Or, at least, part of a ’65 Mustang. According to Reyna, an auto me- chanic, he had stripped the vehicle down to its frame. Most of the body and engine com- ponents had long since been moved to his shop on Kansas Avenue, less than two miles away. Reyna, who said he has restored several classic cars and sold them for profit, said he usually keeps his project B. Man takes a bite out of dog PHOENIX _ A 33-year-old man who bit back after he was caught by a Phoenix police dog is suing police. Erin Sullivan alleged the dog violated his civil rights and used excessive force to capture him after he ran from officers in Glendale during a burglary inves- tigation last year. Police said Sullivan bit the dog back, injuring it. The lawsuit names the cities of Phoenix and Glen- dale and four officers. Precursor filings to the lawsuit sought $200,000 from Glendale and $250,000 from Phoenix. Officials in Glendale and Phoenix have declined comment. Sullivan also alleged Glendale police refused to give him insulin to treat his diabetes. Sullivan's at- torney, Keith Knowlton, has said his client suffered a diabetic seizure in a Glendale cell. Sullivan is serving eight years for convictions in the Glendale burglary. ess.eal by The Associated Pr. is r.S. by Emily Popek; BA. is B 22 O-Town Scene April 21, 2011 cars locked up, but didn’t think anyone would bother stealing the Mustang’s hollow shell. “There wasn’t nothing left to steal,” Reyna said Monday. “All the good parts are in the shop.” Sgt. Kim Crawford of the Modesto Police Department said a file has been opened on the alleged theft, but that no suspects have been identified. The National Insurance Crime Bureau ranks Modesto as No. 2 nationwide for auto thefts; the Stanis- laus County division of CrimeWatch estimates that 60 percent of reported vehicle thefts in the Modesto area go unsolved. Reyna said he remains optimistic. “My car is out there somewhere. I know I’m going to get it back,” he said. “If I have to find it myself, I’ll get it back.” Contests Bainbridge group seeks art pieces The Jericho Arts Council in Bainbridge seeks artists for its annual fine arts show, set for May 7 to 14.
