Pieces Coming Events Peep show back at Hartwick Hartwick College’s annual Peep Show Ex- travaganza will be at 4 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the foyer of Anderson Center for the Arts on the Hartwick campus. All members of the Hartwick and surrounding communities are encouraged to create an artwork representing, inter- preting, defacing, mocking, celebrating or analyzing the infamous marshmallow peep. All are also invited to join fellow revelers for tacky prizes, sticky food and ir- reverent humor. Entries must be delivered to the foyer between 9 a.m. and noon. Judging will begin at 2 p.m., and awards will be announced at 4. This year’s juror is Hartwick College as- sistant professor of theatre arts Marc Shaw. Art sale in C’town The Cooperstown Art As- sociation will hold a Spring Cleaning Art Bazaar from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 8, as well as from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9, and Sunday, April 10. The CAA is at 22 Main St. in Cooper- stown in the village library building. Friday also will feature cheese wine tasting by Swedish Hill Wineries of Cayuga Lake. This is a chance to start an art collection or replace piec- es on walls at home. There will be ceramics by local artisans, paintings, etchings, pastels, antiques, frames and textiles at reduced prices. All proceeds will benefit the CAA. (Regularly $849.99) Only 25 Will Be Made! sought for exhibitions In addition to seeking art pieces for the bazaar, the CAA also is looking for entrants into two upcoming juried shows, the 20th annual Regional Art Exhibition and the 76th annual National Art Exhibition. Both prospectuses can be downloaded at www. cooperstownart.com. The regional show, “Es- sential Art,” will be juried by illustrator/artist Carol Ann Henderson and Cherry Valley Artworks Executive Director Jane Sapinsky. The show is open to artists 18 years of age and older residing in New York state. It offers $2,000 in prizes. The works of art themselves will be judged; no slides will be accepted. The delivery dates are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 29, and Satur- day, April 30. The show runs May 6 through June 3. The national show will be judged by veteran art deal- er/appraiser James Cox and painter Mary Anna Goetz. Any original work in all fine art mediums will be accept- ed; no commercial reproduc- tions or crafts will be taken. To enter this show, artists must send slides/CDs of their work. The slide/CD dead- line is May 16. Prizes up to $3,500 will be awarded at the show, which runs July 15 through Aug. 19. Call 547-9777 with any questions or for more infor- mation. 3 shows to open The Earlville Opera House Arts Center will open three new exhibits for spring with a meet-the-artists reception from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9. In the East Gal- lery, Ashley Nor- wood Cooper will display paintings that literally show a “slice of life.” The subjects show the cut-away sides of houses. Earlville artist Jonathan Vaughn’s paintings are in the Arts Café Gallery, a venue celebrating regional artists. The Earlville Opera House is on East Main Street in Earlville at Route 12B. ‘Mockingbird’ to be staged The time is 1935. The place is Maycomb, Ala. The story is “To Kill a Mockingbird,” the Christopher Sergel adapta- tion of Harper Lee’s classic The Theater Project will present the show at 8 p.m. Friday, April 15, and Satur- day, April 16, as well as at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 17, at Golding Middle School Auditorium in Cobleskill. In the show, a man stands accused of raping a woman. His attorney is able to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the man is in- nocent. Nonetheless, the jury finds him guilty. How can this be?
