The building in which the Delafield Hotel resides has been sold for a second time to a Michigan investor for $4.45 million. According to state real estate records, the hotel at 415 Genesee St. was sold to 616 Hotel LLC, led by Scott Rookus. Rookus also operates Jenison, Mich.-based Rookus Capital Partners LLC. The records show the sale was recorded Feb. 11. Rookus did not return requests for comment. The sale of the 38-room Delafield Hotel marks the sec- ond time it's been sold in the past four years. Rock River Property, an affiliate of ISB Community Bank, Ixonia, sold the property to 616 Hotel. Created within a former warehouse, developer Robert Lang built the hotel and opened it in 2006. Lang sold the hotel to Rookus for $4.53 million in September 2010. When Rookus first purchased the Delafield Hotel, he said at the time he planned to keep it open. A group run by Lang then took over the property after a group run by Rookus default- ed on its payments. In September 2012, Lang trans- ferred ownership of the hotel to Rock River Property Hold- ings. The property was then val- ued at $3.5 million, according to real estate records. For more information on the Delafield Hotel, visit www.thedelafieldhotel.com CITY OF PEWAUKEE – A telephonic public hearing was held last month in City Hall about an application filed by the Water Utility with the Public Ser- vice Commission of Wisconsin requesting to increase water rates due to higher operating expenses and increased plant investment – and now the City of Pewaukee must wait for the judge to make a decision. Jeffrey Weigel, director of Public Works, said the hearing lasted about seven minutes and three people attended, but none wished to speak. He said the city should hear in the coming weeks if its application was approved. If it is, the rate increases would go into effect around March 21 and would appear on the second quarter billing in June. The changes sought by the city mean that there would be uniform block pricing, so residents would be billed the same rate no matter how much water they use. Currently, the more water a residence or business uses, the lower the rate. If the request is granted, the water bill for an average residential cus- tomer with a five-eighths-inch or three-quarter-inch meter who uses 17,000 gallons of water per quarter will increase from $64.69 to $73.31, or 13 percent (not including the public fire protection charge). The public fire protection fee, however, would decrease if the application is approved. – Katherine Michalets, Special to The Freeman HARTLAND – The future appearance of the Sendik's Hartland Plaza is begin- ning to take shape. During the Jan. 26 Hart- land Village Board meet- ing, the site plans for the exterior remodeling, land- scape and lighting plans for Sendik's Hartland Plaza, formerly Hartbrook Mall, 800 Hartbrook Drive, were approved. The Balistreri family announced in November it will open a new Sendik's Food Markets location in Hartland in 2014. As part of opening the new location, the Balistreri family has entered a contract with Devo Properties of Mequon to remodel a 30,000-square- foot vacant store space on the eastern end of the strip mall. In addition, Devo Proper- ties will enhance the entire 69,300-square-foot mall, which includes Biebel's True Value, Great Midwest Bank and BP/Colburn's Car Wash. The Sendik's Food Mar- kets in Hartland will employ about 40 to 45 full- time employees and the same number of part-time employees. Hartland Village Admin- istrator Dave Cox said work has already been started on the interior of the Sendik's, but exterior work on the strip mall like- ly won't start until the weather gets milder. Cox said the exterior of the property will not change a lot, but that the tower architectural fea- tures will be removed. The façade of the Great Mid- west Bank, which is the newest part of the build- ing, will be extended the length of the building, Cox said. In addition, Devo Proper- ties intends to add stormwater facilities including pipes under the parking lot to remediate some drainage issues. – Katherine Michalets, Special to The Freeman Submitted rendering Devo Properties plans to enhance the façade of the former Hart- brook Mall, 800 Hartbrook Drive, Hartland, in preparation for a Sendik's Food Market to open in the retail building this year.
