Even XXXXX, XXXXX XX, 2013 | TAB NAME Odd 2 TV ENCORE By Shona Dustan TV Media N BC is sparing no expense when it comes to its much- anticipated mid-season drama premiere. Big names, fresh new talent, intrigue, suspense — its pulling out all the stops for this one, and all signs point to suc- cess for the peacock network's newest show. Washington, D.C., is thrown into turmoil when the children of some of America's most powerful people are kidnapped and held for ransom in the series premiere of "Crisis," airing Sunday, March 16, on NBC. In the intense pilot episode of the series, a Ballard High School bus filled with sons and daugh- ters of some extremely powerful people — CEOs, diplomats, even the president of the United States — is ambushed on a secluded country road, and the students are all taken captive. D.C. immediately erupts into chaos as law enforcement does everything they can to retrieve the children. The mysterious kid- napper, however, has other plans in mind, and powerful parents of the kidnapped kids begin receiv- ing phone calls asking, "How far would you go? What would you do for your child?" Critics are already calling "Crisis" a cross between two of Graybeals Carpet 2 x 3" Young's Culligan 3 x 3" Harrison- Merzger 2 x 2" On the Cover television's most massive suc- cesses: "24" and "Homeland." It's said to combine the most addictive qualities of both shows — "24's" blood-pumping, edge- of-your-seat action and "Homeland's" thrilling intrigue and deep character development. NBC has added an impressive cast to these promising attri- butes, and executives believe that they've amassed all the nec- essary ingredients for a huge mid-season success. Headlining the cast is "The X-Files" veteran Gillian Anderson, who plays Meg Fitch, the CEO of a major conglomerate and moth- er of one of the abducted chil- dren. Anderson has been very busy over the last year or so, starring in the critically acclaimed BBC series "The Fall," as well as appearing in numerous episodes of NBC's "Hannibal." In an inter- view with The Huffington Post, Anderson says it was her work on the dark, broody, very un-net- work-like series "Hannibal" that convinced her of NBC's commit- ment to making television that stretches the boundaries of tradi- tional network programming. "With NBC's stated commit- ment to making shows that feel more like cable, I'm counting on them to allow us to do that [with this new series,] because that's how this is going to work," she said. "It doesn't have to be as dark as 'Hannibal,' but I thought they were very successful in being able to do what they have with 'Hannibal' and keep it on prime-time network for as long as they have. There's another opportunity with this show, and I'm hoping that that's what it turns out to be." Busy as she is, her decision to work on "Crisis" must have been influenced by the fact that the show boasts an ensemble cast, which means Anderson doesn't star in every scene and can enjoy a comparatively light workload. That's good news for a woman who has three new films slated for release in 2014 alone. Starring alongside Anderson is up-and-coming television star Rachael Taylor ("666 Park Avenue"). Taylor plays Susie Dunn, an FBI agent on the case of the missing children who also happens to be Meg Fitch's estranged sister. When Meg's daughter, Amber (Halston Sage, "How to Rock"), is taken along with the rest of the children, Taylor and Meg must mend fenc- es and work together to unravel the truth behind the kidnappings. Co-starring in "Crisis" is another actor who's been mak- ing the television rounds lately. Dermot Mulroney ("My Best Friend's Wedding," 1997) has recently enjoyed guest arcs on Fox's hit comedy "New Girl" as America's capital is thrown into chaos in NBC's thrilling new drama well as HBO's "Enlightened," so he's no stranger to both net- work television and cable pro- ductions. "Crisis," however, will be his first full-time television commitment. Mulroney plays Thomas Gibson, a very layered, complex character about whom we know very little just yet. Here's what we do know: Gibson is an ex-CIA agent who just happens to be chaperoning his daughter's field trip when their bus is hijacked. From the sound of it, Gibson could turn out to be the savior of all of the kidnapped children or the mas- termind behind the plot. As it stands right now, Mulroney says he's just excited to work with a great cast and to be a part of what he believes will be a fantastic show. In an inter- view with "Access Hollywood," Mulroney applauds the writers for their great work, saying: "The way it's set up right now is, you're watching really four or five dominant storylines at once, and what's really fun is when they start to cross ... you won't be able to wait for next week's show."
