SBA seeks Milwaukee applicants for Emerging Leaders Initiative MILWAUKEE – The Small Business Administration's Wisconsin office is seek- ing 15 Milwaukee applicants for its Emerging Leaders Initiative, according to a SBA statement. The goal of the federal training course, which is in its sixth year, is to attract own- ers of established urban small businesses with high growth potential, the statement said, and provide them with resources to build a sustainable business of size and scale. Businesses must be located in the city of Milwaukee and meet the SBA's criteria for small disadvantaged businesses, the statement said. They should also be at least 3 years old, have at least one employ- ee other than the owner and have gross annual sales of at least $400,000. The application deadline is March 21, and the course begins in April. This seven-month-long course, which is free for participants, includes 100 hours of classroom time as well as networking and mentoring opportunities, according to the statement. ManpowerGroup 4Q earnings double MILWAUKEE – ManpowerGroup Inc. reported its earnings nearly doubled in the fourth quarter, which the Milwaukee com- pany partly attributed to two years of cost cutting. ManpowerGroup started its cost-cutting plan in 2012, according to the world's third-largest staffing company. Worldwide sales in the October to December quarter rose 1.0 percent to $5.25 billion. The com- pany's net income nearly doubled to $101.2 million, or $1.25 per share, in the fourth quarter, from $53.3 million, or 68 cents per share, a year earlier. "The fourth quarter was a good quarter with solid performances from many of our major geographies and business units," said Jeff Joerres, ManpowerGroup chair- man and CEO. The fourth quarter also includes one- time restructuring costs of $26.5 million, including severance costs. The restructur- ing costs affected earnings, shaving 23 cents per share. Without those items, ManpowerGroup earned $1.49 per share, which compares to 91 cents in the year ear- lier period.
