By KIRSTEN KLAHN Special to The Post MILWAUKEE – Drinking and pedaling will continue in Milwaukee for now. But city aldermen could put the brakes on Milwaukee's Pedal Tavern if problems arise down the road. Members of the city's Public Works Committee on Jan. 29 voted in favor of allow- ing alcohol on Milwaukee's Pedal Tavern. The committee narrowly approved the reso- lution on a 3-2 vote to allow consumption of beer on the moving tavern. Aldermen Bob Donovan, Robert Bauman and Jim Bohl voted in favor of allowing alcohol, while Willie Wade and Robert Puente were against the resolution. While the Pedal Tavern owners had authorization to operate the business under a new Wisconsin law passed by the state Legislature in late 2013, municipalities also have the option to pass an ordinance regulat- ing the business. Bauman, who is chairman of the committee, offered two ordinances for consideration – one prohibited alcohol on the Pedal Tavern while the second one copied state law. The approved law at the state level allows groups to bring and drink cans of beer on the tavern. The Pedal Tavern, a traveling pub crawl powered by participants, has been in opera- tion for four years and operates seasonally from St. Patrick's Day through the fall on Milwaukee's streets.
