The Brookfield Central High School senior didn't, but Central's boys basketball team did. Elijah Goodman led the way with 19 points and 20 rebounds to help end Germantown's 69-game winning streak with a 68-58 nonconference victory last month. "I don't believe in karma, but of those 69 wins, we were their first," Central coach Mark Adams said. "It was a game of runs, and we knew it was going to be. I loved the way we finished the game by making free throws because we weren't before." "We've got two guys on the team who've never lost on varsity," Germantown coach Steve Showalter said. "I don't even know if they knew how to take it. It was tough in there, and I hope this doesn't define our season." Goodman's play down low was the catalyst to the victory Goodman had a sequence . of plays down the stretch that helped Central finish the final 2 minutes with a 123 run. After Germantown's Lamonte Bearden blocked Brad Newman's drive, Goodman took the ball right out of Bearden's hands, converted on the layup and was fouled. "I just ran to the basket," Goodman said. "I think Bearden had it. I just took it from him and got the and-1. I may have lost my emotion a little bit." He missed the free throw, but made it up later. He missed the shot but was fouled after rebounding his own miss and followed it up by making both free throws. "There hasn't been anybody to stop him yet," Adams said about Goodman's ability to rebound. "We have teams that look for him and send their body into him. They know it's a problem if he keeps getting it. "Hands down, he's got the greatest nose for the basketball that I've ever coached." LaChance made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 1:09 to seal the victory He had a . team-high 24 points. But what really accentuated the victory was his lob to Caleb Mortag for a dunk. "I was thinking about not throwing it and taking a time out, but in an atmo- sphere like this, home crowd, I had to give the people what they want," LaChance said. "I'm just really proud of the guys and this unreal atmosphere. We executed and did what we needed to do." LaChance was bottled up for a majority of the game. He scored Central's first seven points to give the Lancers a 7-0 lead, but didn't score again until 4:44 left in the third quarter. LaChance scored 32 of Central's 64 points last year when Germantown won with a buzzer beater, 66-64. "That's just what being a point guard is all about," LaChance said about getting others involved. Germantown had to go small with 6-7 seniors "That was the loudest gym I've ever played in my life," Goodman said. "Just going to battle with the guys in that locker room is the best thing ever." As for Germantown's streak coming to an end, Showalter said it's just a mid-January loss. "Not a lot of thoughts about the run. It's tough to lose any game and it's been a while," Showalter said. "I'll know what this all means when I get a chance to sit back and think about it." Added Adams, "I texted him when he broke the record and told him the legacy he's leaving. In today's world, I'm not saying never, but that's going to be tough for somebody to beat that one. They've played and won games in places where we want to be."
