Barstow St., P.O. Box 7, Waukesha, WI 53187 Brookfield Square Mall could be expanding with a 70,000 square-foot addition and new parking structure. BROOKFIELD – Brookfield Square Mall could add 70,000 square feet of retail space within the next two years – if plans to expand garner city approval in the coming months. The proposed expansion would occur in two phases, said Dan Ertl, director of community development for the city of Brookfield. Phase one, which would include an additional 20,000 square feet of retail space in front of the Sears department store, would have a projected completion date during 2014. In the following year, phase two would add 50,000 square feet of retail space in front of the Boston Store, and a two-story parking structure with ground level parking and a walkway . Though it is unknown what stores might enter the new space, Ertl said he is excited to see what the expansion may bring. "It's not the square footage that is the most important part," he said. "It's the opportunity to bring in retailers that may not yet have a presence in Wisconsin." The last expansion of Brookfield Square was an example of this, he added, when North Face expanded into Wisconsin. Mayor Steve Ponto said this expansion would follow 10 years of steady improvements at Brookfield Square, noting that the Mayfair and Bayshore malls are also upgrading. "It's important to the city of Brookfield and to Waukesha County that Brookfield Square continues to be a premier mall in the area," he said. "It is the largest real estate taxpayer in the county, contributing $3.35 million in taxes last year." Each of what Ertl estimated could be up to 12 stores would have its own entrance – and not be accessible from the larger mall structure. 52 weeks..........$192 Easy buy .....$10 a month with credit card Electronic edition ......$10 a month with credit card Circulation Dept.
