Art People Alyssa Zynda “I work primarily in oil paint medium. I also utilize on occasion charcoal, oil pastels, acrylic, ink, paint sticks and watercolor. My work is largely about the human figure, though sometimes I work with still-life or landscapes. If not a model, I use my own photography as inspi- ration for my paintings. Compositionally I like to paint the figure by leav- ing out major details, but still allowing the observer to distinguish the human form. I also like to mix grayscale with hints of bright color. Working on larger can- vases forced me to think not only about the smaller details, but also the nega- tive space. Patterns and texture have become a major part of my recent work. This texture includes incorporating sand, metal and wire into my oil paintings and watercolors.” _ Excerpt from Zynda’s artist’s statement Alyssa Zynda was born in Binghamton, lives in Otego and works in Oneonta. She received her bachelor’s de- gree in computer art with a con- centration in digital photography from SUNY Oneonta in 2007.
