Local Eats Going Downtown The Downtown Deli Company 175 Main St., Oneonta 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week I remember eating at the Downtown Deli Company on Main Street in Oneonta when I was in elementary school and the only thing I would touch at restaurants was fried chicken fingers or New England clam chowder. The Deli Co. satisfied with its chicken fingers, which are still on the menu. The large menu is suspended behind the front counter; prices on pieces of paper are taped next to various items of the menu, which is expansive. It includes dozens of casual dining/deli options such as chicken spiedie sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, seafood salad, antipasto salad, fried mushrooms, mac-and-cheese bites, gravy fries, etc. The list goes on. Currently, it’s open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week. It’s connected to the Old Spanish Tavern, and bartenders will walk through the adjoining doors from the bar to the deli to prepare a burger or fries for bar customers. The deli is tucked back from Main Street, the only natural light coming from the storefront. Customers can get a glimpse of the light by sitting in the upper eating area, which is accessible by stair- cases on the entrance/vestibule side and the counter side. Tables and chairs are the simple kind that can be found in casual dining options such as pizzerias. Although the deli is only open until 5 p.m., friends and I have ordered french fries during springtime happy hours at the OST. If you’re in the mood for heavier options like the hot open-faced roast beef sandwich with gravy and fries that was a recent daily special, the Downtown Deli Company will most likely satiate. _ Cassandra Miller 10 O-Town Scene Jan. 13, 2011
