Will take place Sat. December 14. Four instructors will lead the camp that goes on from 9am-2pm. Former Chase High grad and current Houston Astro, Tyler White will host the event. Crest grad, Julian Ridings and current Tampa Bay Devil Ray joins him along with Patton grad Aaron Attaway and former R-S Central pitcher and current Colorado Rocky player, Ryan Arrowood. The camp cost $40 to individual kids, but $30 per player if registered by team. This should be a great camp for the youth of this county to learn the game. While on the subject of baseball. It was nice to hear that Bobby Cox received the nod into the Baseball Hall of Fame this week. Cox was involved for 42 years in the MLB and has a World Series ring with the Braves. Although, a respected figure/character, who won over 2,500 games as a manager, he hilariously holds the record for being ejected from MLB games. And having a win streak snapped was bound to happen to the Carolina Panthers. New Orleans, who just got rocked by Seattle last week, unleashed some anger on the Panthers to take the NFC South lead again. The two teams will meet next weekend in Charlotte. The Saints played much better than Carolina after the first quarter which ended an eight game Panther win streak. Carolina punched two field goals through in their first two drives of the game and didn't sniff the end zone again until late in the fourth. First, Carolina will host the Jets this Sunday with a one game lead in the NFC wild card race. Top 10 NFL teams this week with three weeks left in the season: 10) Philadelphia 9) Detroit 8) Cincy 7)New England 6)San Francisco 5) Carolina 4)New Orleans 3)Kansas City 2) Seattle 1)Denver. No, they didn't beat Florida State, but give Duke credit…they are a much better football team than people believe. Unfortunately, they will have to take on Texas A&M in the Peach Bowl on New Year's Eve. Having to defend Jameis Winston to now Johnny Manziel…I feel bad for the Blue Devil defense. I don't believe Clemson should have made a BCS bowl game. That's strange coming out of the mouth of a Clemson proponent. Well, Im about to say something even more unbelievable. Although, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, South Carolina deserved a BCS spot over Clemson. Since FSU is playing for the national title, that bumped the Tigers up a notch to nab the bid. As I thought after Auburn beat Alabama a couple of weeks ago, I felt like Florida State and Auburn should play for the title. Sure enough, Ohio State loses last weekend and the two best teams in the nation are playing each other for the title. On paper and film, you have to like FSU. If anybody can pull rabbits out of hats, Auburn is the scariest team FSU could have drawn. I hate to tell you, but I told you so. Many people were angry with Tarheel basketball after losing to Belmont. However, they just beat No.1 Michigan State on the road. Finally, Lenoir-Rhyne will play for the NCAA Division II Football semis. While I know there are a number of people who have went to L-R in the county, It got me thinking about Jack Huss. Huss, the current color commentator of L-R sports radio and a Rutherfordton native, graduated from R-S Central and L-R...well, a few years ago. If there is anybody more passionate about L-R sports, it's Huss. That's just more incentive to pull for the Bears, who host West Chester at noon on Saturday (Dec. 14). I would expect ESPN or ESPN2 to provide coverage for those who can't make it or you can listen by radio at www.lrbears.com. Some families may prefer more traditional holiday decor, while others might like the look of modern trimmings. Holiday decorations can also be used to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a certain type of locale, giving a home a holiday in the city vibe or a more rustic feel. For those who prefer a rustic look reminiscent of a country Christmas, consider the following tips. • Start with the tree. The Christmas tree is the center of many a home's holiday decor, and those who want to create a country Christmas can start with their tree. Instead of traditional holiday lights, choose lights that look like candles while adorning the tree with wooden ornaments and strands of popcorn. • Forgo traditional wrapping paper. Instead of flashy, store-bought wrapping paper, wrap presents in brown paper and put presents under the tree as early as possible. Instead of store-bought gift tags, create your own and attach a candy cane or another candy to the gift. • Think nature with decorations. Items gathered from nature can give a home a rustic appeal during the holidays. Hang a homemade wreath on the front door and include pine cones and clippings from evergreen trees when adding decorative accents around the house. Tuck a few decorative woven baskets in corners to further emphasize a rustic look. • Create homemade ornaments. Homemade ornaments can also give a home a more rustic look come the holiday season. Spend an afternoon creating holiday crafts with the kids and use these instead of store-bought ornaments. For those who are especially gifted craftsmen, put your woodworking skills to the test to create decorative wooden stockings that, if not functional, can be replaced with more traditional stockings come Christmas Eve. • Don't forget the music. Another way to create a country Christmas is to play country Christmas albums instead of classical or more traditional Christmas records. Nearly every country music star of the past and present has recorded a Christmas song or album, so create a master playlist of country Christmas songs on your digital music player and play it throughout the season to set the holiday mood in your household. ~Courtesy of metro Editorial FOR SALE FOR SALE FOR SALE FOR SALE FOR SALE FOR SALE SEASONED FIREWOOD FOR SALE.
