Member of The Associated Press and CNHI News Service Managing Editor’s Note There don’t seem to be a lot of stressed out people in the Oneonta area. It might be the easy pace of country living, the rolling hills and calming wildlife, or it might be the large number of massage therapists in such a small place. In this issue, we profile three Oneonta-based mas- sage therapists from different studios. These ladies are pas- sionate about making people feel good, and winter’s an ideal season to get a hands- on pick-me-up to cope with the chill and gray. In addition to massage therapists, the area seems to be teeming with artists of all types. I was overwhelmed by responses after asking friends (via Facebook) for sugges- tions of artists to feature. One of the suggestions was Oneonta-based professional photographer Michael Forster 2 O-Town Scene Jan. 6, 2011 Rothbart, who I’d met socially but hadn’t seen his work (or his impressive resume) until this week. Not only is he a nice guy, he’s a talented photogra- pher and artist, and he’s newly back from a year- long Fulbright Fellowship to work on his “Created After Chernobyl,” an independent documentary photography project about Chernobyl survivors in Ukraine. His photos have appeared in the New York Times, Newsday, Psychology Today and the Washington Post, to name a few. Forster Rothbart shared some of the photos from his “Fracking Pennsylvania” project on the hydraulic frac- turing situation in Northern Pennsylvania and upstate New York. His photos, along with their stories, are capti- vating. It’s the beginning of a year, and lots of people have re- solved to get fitter. I’m trying out Latin dancing, because it doesn’t really feel like work- ing out. Others might be set on becoming runners. For inspiration, they can read new columnist Danielle Ton- ner’s article on how she got hooked on running.
