With several national retailers opening on Thanksgiving night this year, that competition among stores has been fierce. According to the National Retail Federation, 53.8 percent of shoppers reported they started their holiday shopping by mid-November. Faye Wetzel, owner of Faye's in Brookfield and Mequon, said there are six fewer shopping days and one less weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. The store had specials for Small Business Saturday and got started early trying to draw in shoppers.
