Thursday, December 30, 2010-January 5, 2011 It’s A www.shelbyinfo.com It’s A Good LifeGood Life Working Together To Make 2011 A Great Year! As we begin 2011, the economy continues to be a huge concern for us all. Even though economists predicted last year that economic recovery would take a minimum of 18 months for some semblance of stability, here in Cleveland County it seems as if it may be many more months for some stability. Even though these months may continue to be long and lean, here at the Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, we continue to be most mindful of the economy and how it has and will affect the services, programs and activities that we offer for senior adults age 55 and above. As 2011 begins, the Senior Center continues to find ways to tighten our belts and budget so no program, class, service or activity will be lost or cut, if at all possible - but to do so, we need your help. You can help us by: Pre-registering or making reservations for all events or activities, which require one, so that no food or energy is wasted. Helping us cut energy costs by keeping doors to the outside closed and turn off lights in rooms when not in use. Help us recycle copy paper and other items. Provide suggestions/ideas on other ways the Center can save. Do not adjust any thermostats – please ask staff. Donate yard sale items for the next Flea Market. (with the exception of clothes and shoes – these items can be donated to UA Thrift in the Senior Center’s name and a portion of the proceeds raised is given to the Center.) Become a consignor with the “Yours and Mine” consignment shop. Join us for our monthly covered dish luncheons. Shop in our gift shop – Cobwebs ‘N Confetti – for all your gifting needs. We can help you by: Making use of our no or low cost exercise opportunities, which are available every day of the week. Enroll in one of our craft classes. Learn to dance in a no or low cost dance class. Check out a book out of our library instead of buying one. Take advantage of our no cost services, such as SHIIP (insurance counseling), income tax prepara- tion, quarterly commodity distribution or food pantry assistance for qualified participants to name a few. Attend free senior relevant programs and seminars that are offered throughout the year. 2011 will be a great year, if we choose to make it one, especially if we work together!! January 7, 2011 With “Eat Pray Love” Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) is a modern woman on a quest to marvel at and travel the world Seenior C nior Centeer Cr Center while rediscovering and reconnecting with her true inner self in Eat Pray Love. At a crossroads after a divorce, Gilbert takes a year-long sabbatical from her job and steps uncharacteristically out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life. In her wondrous and exotic travels, she experiences the simple pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of love in Bali. Based on an inspiring true story, Eat Pray Love proves that there really is more than one way to let yourself go and see the world. Enjoy the movie at no charge by bringing a non-perishable food item for the Senior Center’s Food COA/Senior Center Dinner-Dance Fundraiser Winterfest was a big success in 2010 so we decided to do it again as our winter fundraiser instead of the Rockathon.
