Member of The Associated Press and CNHI News Service Managing Editor’s Note We’re in the throws of the holiday season, and Scene writers are giving Scene read- ers the gift of music this issue. Some regular contributors 2 O-Town Scene Dec. 16, 2010 chose their 15 favorite songs, which resulted in seven pro- files through stories about why each song was included. I found the music selec- tions fascinating, but that might be because I know all of the contributors person- ally, except SUNY Oneonta columnists Sam Spokony and Jennifer Tighe, who I feel like I know a bit through their writ- ing and correspondence. All impress me as hip people with discerning musical tastes. Seeing the seven playlists together, it’s fun to compare and contrast. Older contribu- tors have more stories and include a good amount of songs popular during their formative years. There are some lesser-known modern musicians represented on the younger contributors’ lists. A variety of music genres from multiple decades are represented throughout all lists, and several artists made more than one (the Beatles, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Ella Fitzgerland, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, the Pogues, Talking Heads and Warren Zevon). Each grouping of songs is unique, and offers insight into each creator’s personality _ or at least that’s what I like to think. I had a lot of fun putting together this issue, because I listened to contributors’ favorites while I worked. (I’m still thrilled that I keep getting paid for what I do.) For our community member feature, radio host Leslie Ann talked about, among other things, her interests that range from belly dancing to ventrilo- quism to alternative medicine. There are also concert and theater reviews inside, and our first interview with a coun- try band, Fly By Night. Enjoy. Thanks for reading! _ Cassandra Miller
