LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FRIDAY OCTOBER 31ST KICKOFF 7:30PM The Equestrian Trail Coalition of Western North Carolina is a equestrian group in our region. The mission of Equestrian Trail Coalition of Western North Carolina (ETC of WNC) is to develop, preserve, and protect equestrian trails. The goal is to promote trail stewardship, preserve nature's beauty through land conservation, encourage comradery among equestrian enthusiasts and positively impact the economy of Western North Carolina. As Dr. Rachel Butterworth-Tice, President and cofounder points out, there are many benefits not only to the members but to the entire region. Equestrians value and appreciate local trails. They support efforts for land conservation and are stewards of the environment. In addition, equestrian activities boost the local economy, as riders buy supplies (horse and building), eat in restaurants, fuel up their trucks etc., and utilize local professionals, such as veterinarians and farriers. Landowners may also benefit from ETC activities. The ETC supports landowners who open their trails to riders by providing trial maintenance and can also assist landowners in trail development. The coalition deeply respects the landowner's privacy and works with each individual to develop the trails to suit everyone's desires. In addition, the ETC carries liability insurance to protect the landowner. Many members of the coalition have attended trail building and maintenance workshops, and several are Certified Trail Builders. The ETC also provides monthly group activities, such as planned trail rides. Dr. Bob Lynn (Vice President) and wife Jilly guide equestrians on trail rides through some of the most beautiful forests in our region. Past rides have included trips to South Mountain State Park, Broad River Greenway, Croft State Park, Dupont State Forest and local private trails. ETC is open to everyone; the novice rider, as well as the experienced, and western and english riders. The group provides plenty of fellowship and comradery for equestrians of all disciplines. Members participate in many ways to encourage the growth of riding for pleasure, trail development and maintenance through a variety of activities including public awareness and fundraising activities such as our well-loved Pony Rides at county celebrations. Yes, the mission involves work, but most of all, the group has great fun! ETC meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm at the Rutherford County Professional Building, 289 North Main Street, Rutherfordton, North Carolina. If you have an interest in the activities of ETC of Western North Carolina, are a landowner interested in equestrian trail development, or would like to become a member, please call Rachel Butterworth-Tice at 828-447-9600 or email to info@etcofwnc.com.
