Show casts ‘Shadow’ at SUCO ONEONTA — “Shadow,” a multimedia exhibition by six artists of Asian Pacific heritages is on display in the Martin-Mullen Art Gallery in the SUNY Oneonta Fine Arts Building. A reception is set from 5 to 7 p.m. today for the artists, and the show runs through Dec. 17. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The installation includes works by Jian Cui, Makato Fujimura, Misako Oba, Joo Yeon Woo, Caomin Xie, and Phillia Changhi Yi. The exhibition title suggests the influences cast on the artists’ work by their own diverse cultural and personal experiences. Open mic in Oxford OXFORD —Try out a new song, recite poetry or tell a story starting 7:30 p.m. today at open mic night at 6 On The Square in Oxford. The event, held every third perform ONEONTA — The Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company returns to Oneonta — last visiting the area in 2001 — at 8 p.m. Monday at the Oneonta High School auditorium. It is the second performance in the Oneonta Concert Association’s 2010- 11 concert season. The company is composed of 40 dancers and musicians who have adapted the music, dances and costumes of Fili- pino folklore to the stage. Newsweek described the group as “enchanting, en- gaging and graceful.” The company was founded in 1957 and has since done 15 international tours to 55 countries on five continents, as well as more than 100 brief tours to international festivals. The group’s performances are so powerful, an OCA media release said, that it has promoted other countries to establish their own na- tional folkloric companies. OCA offers subscriptions for its current season for all remaining performances: $75 for adults, $25 for stu- dents and $150 per family. The “karaoke slam” will be hosted by Northern Star and Jeff Wood. Top performers each week have a chance to sing on the theater’s big stage in the spring for a $500 prize. For more information, go to http://oneontatheatre.com. Cabaret set for Sat. ONEONTA — Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center will host a cabaret and dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Performers include a five- piece dance band featuring Rachel Fox on vocals, Alan Thomson on piano, Tom Wetmore on bass, drummer Keven Corkery and Stan Fox on vocals and harmonica. The group will play jazz stan- dards, as well as ’50s and ’60s rhythm and blues. Tickets are $5, which benefit the facility. For more Americana trio to play EARLVILLE — The Jeremy Wallace Trio comes to the Earlville Opera House Arts Cafe at 8 p.m. Friday. “Discovering his ‘old school’ whiskey-and-cigarette voice, vintage guitar and unforget- table lyrics is pure heaven for anyone serious about Ameri- can roots music,” Caffe Lena of Saratoga Springs said.
