Local Eats An Upstate bounty Pie in the Sky offers everything from sweet treats to fresh produce to VHS rentals. Photo by Jemmy Delva As autumn digs its cool heels into the dying leaves, Pie in the Sky, Otego’s organic food market on state Route 7, is still offering treasures in delicious abundance. Yum, baked goods Among The Pie’s signature offerings are its baked goods, featured at the far left of its brightly inviting farmhouse setting. For starters, you’ll see a plate piled with whole wheat peanut butter cookies generously studded with chocolate chips and a spread of plump pumpkin-gingerbread muffins. Scrumptious slabs of fudge, from mint chocolate to maple nut, sit in plastic containers. Proprietors Jamie Potter and Janice Powers display a food- fusing creativity that might make Ben and Jerry smile. Which reminds me: Pie in the Sky also makes its own ice cream: try the pumpkin pie before it is retired for the season. In the middle of the store is a world of confections and craftsmanship, including a mighty display of maple syrup bottles recalling the Holy Grail selection scene from “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” 14 O-Town Scene Nov. 18, 2010
