On Eli Segall's Oct. 1 vegasinc.com story about a record number of property default notices being filed ("Banks file largest one-day total of defaults for region Monday"): I lost my job back in 2008 and couldn't pay the mortgage on my house, so I let the bank take it in early 2010. I took out a fixed-rate loan, but my income dropped by 60 percent and I couldn't make my payments anymore. It wasn't the bank's fault. I couldn't meet my legal obligation to pay, so I moved on. I have a relative who has been sitting in his house without paying his mortgage for five years now. He could afford it but chooses not to pay. The bank hasn't bothered him about it, and he thinks it's great that the laws keep changing to make it more likely that he can just live there for free forever. The Legislature shouldn't be in the business of helping thieves, whether banks or deadbeats. — Troy Fuhriman (LegalBagel) I have paid for my home. But I certainly have more compassion for uneducated buyers who have been scammed by Realtors and banks than I do for banks, which knew exactly what they were doing when they gambled their fortunes. Wall Street and Congress bailed them out with taxpayer money, and all of the CEOs got raises and bonuses while the taxpayer got the shaft. — Homer W On Rick Velotta's Oct. 4 vegasinc.com story about proposed airline routes to Las Vegas ("An airport wish list: Which airlines could bring Las Vegas the most new tourists?"): How about worrying about getting domestic service ramped up? How about encouraging Virgin America to establish a Vegas hub? We need more than Southwest and Allegiant. — Alex Shelton (seahawks1) On Eli Segall's Oct. 4 vegasinc.com story about construction at Tivoli Village ("Tivoli Village developers to begin second phase of construction next week"): That complex is always dead, even on weekends, and Pick 'Em 934 Power tweets Power Lunch the basics Get smart The Numbers Sin City Media Buy high Sell low ? The innovator 20131028_VI19_F.indd 19 On Eli Segall's Oct. 7 vegasinc.com story about a vague provision in Senate Bill 321 ("Critics: New Nevada short-sale provision ineffective"): Why should lawmakers make it easier for a delinquent homeowner to sell his home to a friend at a greatly reduced price and then buy or rent it back? What about the homeowners who stuck through the highs and lows paying their bills? The only thing that was created by the state Legislature was the ability for the next bubble to come with greater ease than the last. The banks can no longer go after delinquent homeowners and can't block short sales to friends. They are telling people it is OK to go in debt and then default. — Forthetruth the numbers 500 VEGASINCmag 95 The number of employees Konami Gaming says it plans to hire once a $40 million $ expansion is done. LAS VEGAS Vegas then 28 October 2013 On Ed Komenda's Oct. 4 vegasinc.com story about the Alliance to Protect Nevada Jobs' response to Culinary Union protests against the Cosmopolitan ("Cosmopolitan, alliance members will take a different approach — thanking tourists for visiting"): I witnessed the (Culinary) union's tactics personally this weekend as a tourist when one of their members decided to make a comment with their loudspeaker about a tourist's weight. Real class exhibited by the union member. You would think they want support for their effort, but they resorted to insulting people walking around their picket line. — Bubba7 .com The number of notices of default filed Sept. 30 in Clark County, a day before Senate Bill 321 — the Homeowner's Bill of Rights — took effect. It was the most ever filed on a single day in the county. | Overheard I've noticed there's no advertising anywhere for it. Do they not care about their tenants or bringing people in?
