THE JUDGES VA N B A LT Z Baltz is the chief technology officer and the vice president of operations and support at Station Casinos. He has spearheaded an effort that helped the company ride the technological wave, successfully pulling off vast network installations – connecting an estimated 15,000 devices, including some of the 23,000 newer slot machines installed at various properties. Baltz's teamwork also extends to gaming area monitors, including surveillance cameras, and the deployment of an array of Internet Protocol phones. LAURIE CLEMENS Clemens, the school director and co-owner of Professional Institute of Technology, worked in the career education and human resources industry for more than 25 years. She started her HR career at Southwest Gas as a human resource representative. After 10 years at SWG, she moved to Career Education, assisting unemployed and disabled individuals with training and placement. She and her husband, Steve Clemens, started LV-PITA in 2009 with a vision to change how training was provided to career changers. J E F F G R AC E As president and CEO of NetEffect, Grace oversees the day-to-day operations and business development activities of the Las Vegas-based, information technology support and consulting firm. Grace began working in technology 17 years ago for an Internet Service Provider in the early days of the Internet. In 1999, Grace went to work for a technology consulting firm in the Boston area, where he worked with large enterprises including the New York Times, Cannondale, Fiduciary Trust and the Massachusetts Port Authority. In 2002, Grace returned to Las Vegas to launch NetEffect. JOHN GJONOLA Gjonola is the director of IT at ProCaps Laboratories. He oversees technology that supports some 350 employees and their customers. ProCaps is a top seller on the Home Shopping Network and has posted year-over-year growth since it began in 1979. Upon arriving at ProCaps, one of his first undertakings was an ambitious solar array installation. In 2008, the system was completed and today provides 100 percent of the site's energy. The array was recently expanded, adding newer, more efficient technology. JOSEPH MARCELLA Marcella is the first and current chief information officer/director of the department of information technologies for the City of Las Vegas. He has held this position since the Mayor and Council created the department in 1997. Marcella's prior experience is primarily from the private sector, most recently as senior vice president and director of information systems at Norwest Bank (now Wells Fargo). He has logged more than 40 years in information systems and more than 30 years in the management of business technologies. MIKE REARDON Reardon joined Desert Radiologists in 2008 to provide advanced technological expertise and strategic planning for the organization's Information Services division. He has more than 20 years of expertise in various areas of information technology. Prior to joining Desert Radiologists, he served as the information technology manager for the nation's largest telecommunications provider to the convention and trade show industry. Some of Reardon's core responsibilities include direction of the information systems and information technology teams, oversight of clinical implementations, emerging technology development, vendor contract relationships and corporate IT governance.
