Andrews • maandrews@rutherfordweeklly.com m It's called the Rutherford County Humane Society because it tries to help the animals. Mostly puppies, dogs, kittens and cats. The society helps to spay/ neuter, give vaccinations and all other medical needs. RCHS also provides pet food to individuals in need, so they can continue to feed their pets. Due to the present economic situation in our county, food is now, more than ever needed. Don't forget to set your clock one hour! RUTHERFORD COUNTY HOMECOMING CELEBRATION SAT., NOV. 6., NOV. 6TH THE FOUNDATION ICC • SPINDALE, NC In His Glory prIn His Glory presents theesents the 9 ANNUAL RUTHERFORD COUNTY TH • 6PM • 6PM INFO:INFO: 828.286.9990 SEE PAGE 2 828.286.9990 SEE P GE 2 Allow me to explain. The Rutherford County Humane Society is not associ- ated with any other organization, here or in the United States. It is an amazing fact that there is no paid staff. Everyone is a volunteer! The only money the society takes in is donated from local caring and generous people. Today, the funds have reached an all time low. The situation is critical. A young lady, Brianna Jenkins, now 10 years old and a fi fth grade student at Harris Elementary wants to help. With her Aunt Debbie and mom, Denise, she has started to collect food and money for her friends- the animals. Many are born in the wild and have no one to take care of them. They fi ght among themselves for food- for existence! Brianna has made a stray, nine month old kitten she named "Autumn", her "Poster Pet" in her attempt to help. At her Aunt Debbie's business, Autumn Lanes, Brianna has placed a big box and sign to start collecting for the Humane Society. She has also made up a fl yer asking for help. At her school she is trying to get all the kids involved. She is trying to place more collection boxes for food throughout Rutherford County. Her Aunt Debbie has offered a prize- a night of free one-hour bowling, for the school's entire class! The class that produces the most food and money for RCHS! Brianna Jenkins loves animals and asks for your help. She is very committed to this project. All and any money she gets or earns, she buys food for her friends. She wants to see them healthy and adoptable. "Autumn" - she chose the name because of the kittens' color, was found roaming with a pack of kit- tens on a street in Ellenboro. One of her ears is cut from the "fi ght to survive". "Autumn" has a very serious upper respiratory infection that is threatening to become phenomena! This little, lovable, nine month old kitten is fi ghting for her life! She is cared for night and day and has recently gained one pound. But, she still has trouble breathing. As I was writing this story, I got a phone call saying the vet said that "Autumn" had to stay at the hospital. They are trying desperately to save her life. Two other kittens have already died of phe- nomena. "Autumn" has become a loving and thankful kitten, who now is no longer skiddish or afraid. She knows she is in a caring environment. But she still wheezes and has trouble breathing. Is it too late? I hope not! "Autumn" has inspired many who now realize they can help! She is just one animal who needs help. The problem is that the Rutherford County Humane Society is in desperate need of both food and fi nancial aid to help "Autumn" and many, many, others. The demand for helping these animals is overwhelm- ing. Time is running out! Can you please, either by giving pet food or a donation, help these needy animals survive? You can call the all volunteer Humane So- ciety at 828-286-0222 or send a check or money order to Rutherford County Humane Society, PO Box 998, Rutherfordton, NC 28139. It's a disastrous situation! Ideas! How about businesses in the county contributing a percentage of sales to help; putting out collection boxes; elementary, middle school and high school students taking on a project to give, collect and save the animals. Don't any of you remember you childhood when your pet kitten, cat, puppy or dog became your best friend? We cannot ignore these wonderful friends. Please help! If a 10 year old named Brianna can fi nd the time and give all her earned money to help, why can't you do something to help? If you need a donation box delivered to your church, organization, or business just call Brianna at Autumn Lanes; 828-286-9149 and ask for one to be delivered. We cannot lose the great work and help the Rutherford County Humane Society is doing. Please give as much as you can and as soon as possible. It's a desper- ate situation.
