Pizza Pizza Pizza! Bite it. Pizza, that is. Oneonta is home of the cold-cheese pizza, roni rolls and more pizza options per capita than any other city in the country (based on our unofficial research). We’ve put together a guide of 9 places where you can get a slice. We know there are plenty of other places that serve pizza, but we only have so much room. O-town Scene STREET TEAM members went out and did the hard research of taste-testing Oneonta’s pies. Here’s what they found. Photos by Tiffany Doris, unless otherwise noted. Mama Nina’s 299 Main St. 431-9800 Owners: Anastasio and Serina Georga- kopoulos; Founded: “a long time ago” When to eat? Sun-Thurs, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Fri-Sat, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Serve wine and beer? Yes! And a bar to drink it at. Robb Gregory Sal’s 285 Main St. 432-6766 Owner: Joseph Grigoli; Founded: 1978 When to eat? 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day Serve wine and beer? No wine, but beer! Deliver? Yes. Specialty pizza: Buffalo Chicken ($3) red sauce, bread- ed chicken, buffalo wing sauce; Chicken and Broccoli ($3) red sauce, broccoli, chicken. ‘Very flavorful, good spices, crust not too think or thick - very good.” Plain cheese: ($2) Cheese and crust are the dominant ingredients. The crust is me- dium thickness and soft. “Very flavorful.” Photo by Hannah Colburn Ruffino’s 224 Main St. 432-7400 Owners: Joe Ruffino; Founded: 1972 When to eat? Free city-wide after 5 p.m. Specialty pizza: Special slice ($3) red sauce, pepperoni, sausage, onions, mushrooms, meatbals, garlic; Roni roll ($2.50) pepperoni and mozzarella wrapped in dough. “Yummmm.” Plain cheese: ($2.25) Sauce is the star. Thin, soft crust. Same recipe since 1972. Photo by Hannah Colburn 16 O-Town Scene Oct. 14, 2010 Photo by Hannah Colburn Katrina Webster, Jim Slimington and Kian Smith Deliver? Yes. Specialty pizza: Veggie ($3.50) red sauce, breaded eggplant, onion, roasted red and green peppers, not a lot of cheese. Plain cheese: ($2) Cheese is dominant; crust is pretty dry, buy chewy and thin; slice is pretty big, “as long as my forearm.” It’s good value for the cost. Not too fancy, but “satisfying.”
