Former tennis pro turned education advocate Andre Agassi on Monday gathered with school representatives, city officials and children to help officially open Milwaukee's Rocketship Southside Community Prep. "Again and again, I see how transformative a great school can be in a young person's life," he said. "By helping proven educators secure top-quality learning facilities, we're allowing great schools to flourish in Milwaukee and all over the country ." The school will instill change in Milwaukee's youths, said Agassi, co-managing partner of Canyon-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund, CEO of Agassi Ventures and founder of the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy . The school serves 300 students from K4 to fourth grade and will grow to 650 students through fifth grade by 2015, Agassi said. The 37,000-square-foot building is an adaptive reuse of a 1920s commercial building, as well as 10,000 square feet of new construction.
