September 13, 2013 • Milwaukee Post • 13 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR To the editor: This kind of stuff infuriates me and a whole lot of the hardworking people who paid for all they have and own and never asked for or got assistance because of making poor decisions in their lives. It used to be people were branded and lived in shame for having to take rental assistance, food stamps, utility assistance and welfare. Now it affords them headlines in the newspaper. Everything is turned around. People are rewarded with free money for making poor decisions in life instead of being punished. What became of a handup has become a handout, forever. Why get back on your feet when it's more financially rewarding to lay on your back, have more babies out of wedlock, stay on the dole from family to family and Polish Center to celebrate poet's life Post Staff FRANKLIN – Nobel Prize-winning poet Wisawa Szymborska's life and writings will be celebrated at the Polish Center of Wisconsin at 7 p.m. Sept. 19. The Rev. Andrew C. Kennedy, senior minister of the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, will speak about the extraordinary life of Wisawa Szymborska and read from her work. The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is appreciated. Call 414-529-2140. Szymborska, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1996, passed away at the age of 88 in February 2012 in Krakow, Poland. The Polish Center is located at 6941 S. 68th St. in Franklin between West Rawson Avenue and South Loomis Road. For more information, call 529-2140 or visit www.polishcenterofwisconsin.org. let the system pay your bills? No wonder the U.S. is gazillions and counting in debt. A bank won't loan you money without showing collateral. Taxpayers should not be financing other people's bills, food stamps, mental health, welfare and utilities. If you, as a person, can't live within your means then don't. I know scores of people who live in a better house than me, pay almost nothing for rent, get food stamps and utility assistance. Just because they made a mistake they could have avoided. This exorbitantly costly help must stop. Our economy can't afford it. Short-term help never works. A person must do right from the start. Once they're on the dole for all that free help, they never want to even try to get off. Plus, it's robbing all of the other taxpayers who pulled their own weight. 233698160 Join us for our Fall Open House Joe Myszkowski Oak Creek 234058162 Economy can't afford those taking advantage of the system If you have been interested in exploring senior living communities, now is the best time . . . .before the snow flies!
