The FREEMAN & ENTERPRISE Lake Country THIS MONTH INSIDE SEPTEMBER 2013 NEWSMAKER Q&A with state Rep. Adam Neylon Neylon focused on jobs and economy By Arthur Thomas Freeman Staff Barbara Eash antiques column 5A Calendar of community events 6A THE FREEMAN: How would you describe your district? ADAM NEYLON: It's a very conservative district, very hands off. There's not a lot of people asking for things from the government. They're looking at ways we can make the government more efficient, looking at ways we can increase tax cuts, looking at ways we can improve the business climate in the region. Overall, its a really great district to represent. FREEMAN: What's the biggest difference you've found between being a staffer and an elected official? NEYLON: I think the biggest difference is taking ownership of ideas. As a staffer, you work on ideas that are basically somebody else's and you're doing the leg work for them. There are instances where you have ideas as a staffer that you'll come to your boss or a committee chair with or something and it might gain some traction and you might PRSRT STD US POSTAGE PAID WAUKESHA, WI PERMIT NO. 3 Disability doesn't keep sailor from world title 8A WAUKESHA – State Rep. Adam Neylon, R-Pewaukee, took office in April following a special election. One of the youngest lawmakers in Madison, Neylon previously worked as a staffer for U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner and state Rep. Bill Kramer. He also operates his own window washing business. Well, when you're a legislator, when you put your name on something, now you have a direct impact on the lives of other people, you are directly affecting the laws of the land and you have this greater sense of responsibility and the importance of the job you do. You really have to think the buck stops with you. FREEMAN: What's been the most surprising thing since you started in the Assembly? NEYLON: I think the most surprising thing has been the rapid pace of some of the ideas, how fast we're able to work through the system on some ideas. We have a very good team of leadership that's able to really get a lot done behind closed doors in terms of communicating what we're trying to accomplish, working with the experts, getting something on paper, getting it out to the offices and being able to go from idea to committee to the floor I think has been much more efficient than I've experienced in the past, especially while working in Washington D.C. for Congressman Jim SensenCharles Auer/Freeman Staff brenner. ...
