Keeping seniors safe in their homes is a main goal of Waukesha-based Interfaith. Ninety-seven percent of clients surveyed said chore services help them live independently If you and your family, business, com. munity or congregation youth or outreach team have three to four hours to volunteer, Interfaith needs you. Interfaith connects volunteers to more than 100 local residents who have qualified and need help with their yard cleanup. Clients complete an activity preference list that includes raking leaves, cleaning flower beds and gutters, covering shrubs and plants, washing windows, installing storm windows and weeding. Volunteers pick a date between Oct. 19 and Nov. 17 to help local residents. The leader of the volunteer group will complete a brief signup sheet and receive information on the resident who needs assistance. As one 85-year-old senior shared, "The volunteers did a very thorough job, and worked well together. They helped me with things I can no longer do on my own." Helping older adults, adults with disabilities and family caregivers live dignified, meaningful and engaged lives in the community while maintaining their independence is the mission of Interfaith. In 2012, 581 volunteers provided yard cleanup to 230 homes. Annually, Interfaith volunteers help 1,100 Waukesha County neighbors with rides to health care appointments and grocery stores, support for caregivers, yard cleanup, lawn mowing, snow removal, friendly visits, assistance with bills and forms and minor home repairs.
