Her visit was a gift to family caregivers of Life Enrichment par- ticipants in celebration of the center’s 30th birthday this year. “Teepa is the best I’ve ever heard,” says Suzi Kennedy, executive director of Life Enrichment Center (LEC), “so we wanted our families to hear from the best.” Ms. Snow also spent two days training LEC staff as part of the ongoing education which makes it possible for them to care for any adult, no matter what the diagnosis. The LEC staff also offered a sitter service at no charge so that care- givers could attend the session. Life Enrichment has facilities in Shelby and Kings Mountain to provide adult day health service respite for all-age adults who can’t or shouldn’t stay at home alone. For more information about LEC or to schedule a free trial visit, call 704.739.4858 in Kings Mountain or 704.484.0405 in Shelby. Provided By Linda Cabaniss Banana Split Banana Split $29999 + tax + tax Twenty-three year old Dustin (nicknamed “Hammer”) lives in Lawndale. For all of his 23 years he has had Multiple Sclerosis. Dustin is now at Duke Hospital being pre-tested for two lung transplants and a possible liver transplant. At Duke he is going through therapy four days a week and undergoing four hours per session. Thus far, the results for a liver transplant are leaning toward “not necessary”. However, that is not a final decision. The double lung transplant is a given. Everyone, his family and friends are encouraged and each will tell you that Dustin is positive and he’s the one who keeps their spirits high. This is an amazing young man. Two Saturdays ago, August 14, as a surprise, the community came out in full force! For five miles or more, families and friends of all ages lined the road (Route 182-Stagecoach Trail) all the way from downtown Lawndale to beyond the turn at Fallston. Well wishers with homemade signs clapped and cheered as Dustin rode in a white truck with his mom on the way to Duke where his dad and sister were waiting his arrival. Dustin is an inspiration and is loved by all who know him. So, far his dad told us he is very content being at Duke Hospital and looks forward to receiving the transplants. Our prayers and well wishes are with Dustin and his family. –M. A.
