Elliott, 78, a resident at Holly Springs Senior Center Living was honored Monday morning as "Queen for the Day," received the lift chair from Tish Zimmerman, Chapter Director of North Carolina's Twilight Wish Foundation and a resident of Green Hill. The presentation was made before Elliott's friends and staff at Holly Springs. Zimmerman said, "she is thrilled with her new chair and has dared anyone to sit in it." Brent Allen, executive director at Holly Springs, said he nominated Elliott for the lift chair through the foundation's giving program. "This chair allows her to be more independent," Allen said. Elliott received a certifi cate of Honor & Thanks, that read — "for maintaining an inspiriting and uplifting spirit and dedication to others. Know that others remember and care." "I'm just so thankful, thankful for the chair," Elliott said. During her lifetime, Elliott and her husband, the late Robert Elliott, fostered 50 children in Rutherford County. "She gave back to her community," he said. She also wants people to know the couple took the foster children to church and school and she and her husband were able to send some to college. She said when some of the "children" would see her out in public later in life they would tell people, "that's my mama." Elliott spent some her years on the job with Rutherford Life Services where she was a cook and was a champion for the clients there. Zimmerman said donations to Twilight Wish Foundation are always appreciated and volunteers are also needed. "We are also applying for grants," she said.
