Dixon Blvd. • Shelby, NC 704-487-7261 Bell ringers are needed for the Salvation Army's red kettles in Rutherford County during the holiday season beginning Friday, Nov. 24. Bell ringing goes through December 24. Times are 10am to 5pm. Bell ringers are needed at Walmart, Belk, Rose's, Ingles, Hobby Lobby and Food Lion and have an opportunity to work different days and shifts. T h e r e are volunteer ringers as well as paid bell ringers. I n t e r e s t e d persons may fi ll out an a p p l i c a t i o n this week at the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Main Street in Forest City. Bring an identifi cation card (driver's license, etc). Call 828-287-0119 for more information. Coins that are dropped into the red kettles during the Christmas season provide services all year round in Rutherford County for people who need them most. In 2020, the Salvation Army in Rutherford County assisted 175 people; provided food to 530 people, energy assistance to 49 people and housing assistance for 11 people. The Salvation Army also provides clothes, household items and furniture for those who have immediate needs. The thrift store sells clothes, household goods, jewelry and furniture for sale with proceeds helping to operate the store. More than 250 children are on the Salvation Army Christmas gift list this year and donations are needed for the gifts. The annual Christmas Angel tree, located at the thrift store, has the names of children and their wish lists, said Norma Murphy, social worker. This year's Christmas Cheer Center will be located in the Parkland Plaza in Rutherfordton, the former Fred's store. Hours and dates will be released at a later date.
