The Special Olympics of Rutherford County celebrated the fall sports athletes last week with a banquet at the Forest City Clubhouse. Athletes, Unified Partners, coaches and volunteers all attended the event. The Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phil hosted the event. Digital design and content creation is about to get a little bit more immersive for some students at Isothermal Community College. Through a partnership with Jobs For The Future, Isothermal will begin the second round of a Meta Spark pilot program for students interested in building augmented reality skills for graphic design, 3-D animation/ motion graphics, and digital marketing/business administration, among other academic tracks. The seven-week program will provide students with the opportunity to learn AR skills as well as explore potential jobs and related careers. The course is free. There are spots left, but space is limited. It will be on Tuesdays from 6 to 9pm starting Nov. 7 and ending Dec. 19. The course will be taught by Zack Freeman, Advertising and Graphic Design instructor; and Katlin Mitchell, Information Technology instructor. Meta Spark is a series of in-depth training modules designed to prepare learners for careers in augmented reality. These virtual instructor-led lessons provide learners with experience creating augmented reality effects with the Meta Spark Studio, the AR design software that enables creators to build customizable AR experiences to reach viewers using Facebook and Instagram. The curriculum offers three tiers of training, including an initial contextual grounding module for AR design basics, and subsequent modules that go deeper into design principles and practical applications of the software. The training also comes with study guide materials and practice tests for the Meta Spark professional certifi cation exam that learners can take at the conclusion of the curriculum.
