Jeff Melton photo Bring the Joy of Christmas to Less Fortunate Children The Foothills Detachment 1164 of the Marine Corps League in Cleveland County is excited to announce the arrival of the 2023 U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Pro- gram to Cleveland County. It is important to note that ALL funds and toys collected in Cleveland County WILL RE- MAIN in Cleveland County. Our detachment includes retired Marines, former Ma- rines, and other military Associates. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profi t public charity. Toys for Tots, a 74-year national charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, provides happiness, and hope to less fortunate children during each Christmas holiday season. The toys, books, and other gifts collected and distributed by our Marines and volunteers during the Christmas season offer these children recognition, confi dence, and a positive memory for a lifetime. Toys for Tots also provides support year-round to less fortunate families experiencing challenges and excep- tional circumstances, thus sending a message of hope beyond the holiday season. It is such experiences that help children become responsible citizens and caring members of their community. Last year, the Marine Toys for Tots Program distributed over 24.4 million toys to 9.9 million children in need from 833 local campaigns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. Since 1947, over 272 million children have been assisted. For more information, please visit www.toysfortots.org. The Foundation has recently expanded to year- round programs that includes the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, Toys for Tots Native American Program, the Foster Care initiative, and partnership with Good360 to support children and families in need during uncertain and unstable times. In 2022 The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation spent almost 98% of all funds received on their Programs. This fi rst year the Cleveland County Program will focus entirely on bringing the Joy of Christmas to the less fortu- nate children in our County. The most visible recognition of the Program are the "The Toys for Tots" collection box- es that have been a part of the Program for many years. As a new Program we are looking to place the collection boxes in all cities and towns in the County.
