Local Fishing Report Tammy Melton with Cleveland County Bass Club fi shed their October tour- nament, Oct 7th at Lake Wateree. The water is still down about 4 foot for the repairs on the dam. This makes it hard to fi nd structures and docks in enough water to fi sh. It was a tough day for some anglers. There was only one 5 fi sh limit bag weighed in. (2nd Part of "Fall" Series) What's your favorite pumpkin des- sert during the fall season? Is it cookies, bread, muffins, cupcakes, or cheese- cake? Whatever strikes your fancy, spices impart flavor and aroma to those delicious foods. They enhance the appe- tite, add zest to the food, and boost their flavors. The top three spices I enjoy are cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. The scent of the spices pulls me in. Even be- fore I spot those delightful delicacies, I can't wait to have a taste! Our lives are also supposed to yield a sweet fragrance that pleases God and points people to Christ. 2 Corinthians 15:15 (NIV) says, "For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing." Cinnamon My favorite of the three spices is cinnamon. Cinnamon was very important in biblical times and one of the ingredients in the anointing oil. Exodus 30:23-24 (NLT) says, "Collect choice spices—12 1/2 pounds of pure myrrh, 6 1/4 pounds of fragrant cinnamon, 6 1/4 pounds of fragrant calamus, and 12 1/2 pounds of cassia—as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel. Also, get one gallon of olive oil. Like a skilled incense maker, blend these ingredients to make a holy anointing oil." Consecra- tion and healing were the principal purposes for anointing oil. It is symbolic of the Holy Spirit's presence and power. Many still use anointing oil today to pray for the sick according to James 5:14 (ESV). It states, "Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord." Ginger Ginger, my second favorite spice, has a piquant flavor with a fiery and comforting bite to it. It certainly doesn't fall under the bland or boring category. Likewise, we must snap out of any indifference, rebellion, or lethargicness and ask the Lord to make us spicy for him. Our world is full of hurting people, who des- perately need others that have a burning heart for God's word and serving, despite their own personal difficulties. Jeremiah 20:9 (NLT), "But if I say I'll never mention the LORD or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It's like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can't do it!" PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Lord I praise you because you loved me and gave yourself up for me as an offering and sac- rifice to the Father [slain for me and the entire world, so that it became] a sweet fragrance. My heart is overwhelmed with grati- tude. Forgive me for not always being on fire for you. Lord, I ask for a fresh touch of your Holy Spirit.
