As part of the FY 23-24 budget, Cleveland County Government discontinued the Solid Waste Decal Pro- gram. The initiative was de- signed to be a two-year pilot program. It was introduced in July 2021 and went into effect in October to ensure collection sites are reserved for the sole use of Cleveland County residents whose tax dollars pay for the solid waste program. In July 2021, the county mailed two win- dow decals to residents. De- cals were to be placed in the windshields of vehicles when dropping off trash at conve- nience sites. The decals ex- pired on September 1. "It was a pilot program that had high success in the be- ginning," said Josh Davis, Solid Waste Director. "With the limited staff at our conve- nience site locations, it has proven difficult to enforce. Employees will continue to monitor the use of conve- nience sites by out-of-county residents and educate those who are not in compliance." Cleveland County Solid Waste Division has two landfills and seven conve- nience centers county-wide. The Self-McNeilly and Air- port Road landfill hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Satur- day. All convenience center hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Residents can find more information about conve- nience center locations and accepted items at www. clevelandcounty.com. Cleveland County Solid Waste Decal Program discontinued The Pickleball Association of Cleveland County (PACC) hosted a three-day "End of Summer Slam" pickleball tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend at the Suttle Courts on West Marion Street. More than one hundred thirty players came from North and South Carolina to vie for medals and bragging rights in a variety of skill levels. As the brackets narrowed down the playing got more intense and the spectators were cheering on their family members and/or friends. As a pair of players from the NC coast said, "What a great facility Shelby has and such a well-run tournament. We will be back!"
