Doreen was born July 3, 1935 in Rutherford County to the late Ralph Edward Carver and Arcenia Byers Carver. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, and a member of Caroleen United Methodist Church. Doreen worked as a teller/ loan processor for the First Federal Savings and Loan and BB&T bank. She later worked for Hamrick, Bowen, Nanney and Dalton Law office. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Jerry Hollifield; daughter, Lynne Hollifield and siblings, Jack Price, Eual Price and Mary Alice Gaither. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Bill Hollifield (Kay) of Rutherfordton; four grand- children, five great-grand- children . The funeral service was held September 5 at the Caroleen United Methodist Church with Re. Roy T. Byers officiating. Ramona "Dee" Hobbs R a m o n a " D e e " Prewitt Hobbs, age 84, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Dee was born March 16, 1939 in Rutherford County to the late Robert Edward Prewitt, Sr. and Mary Quinn Womick Prewitt. She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School, and worked for Cone Mills for 30 years before retirement. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Missionary Methodist Church formerly Sisk Memorial Missionary Methodist Church. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Earnest Edward Prewitt, Paul Wesley Prewitt, George Oliver Prewitt, Robert Edward Prewitt, Jr. and sisters, Annie Maude Strickland, Ava Lois Crawford and Mary Ellen Brennan. Those left to cherish her memory include her hus- band, James Hobbs; daugh- ter, Anita Fay Ledbetter Russell (Bob) of Burwick, PA; sons, Jason Robert Ledbetter (Erin) of Bostic and Tim Ledbetter (Peggy) of Spindale; her twin sister, Rachel "Lee" Cope of Forest City; stepson, Ricky Hobbs of Sandy Mush; stepdaugh- ters, Teresa Owens of MO, Gail Hobbs of Ellenboro; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Laura Mae McGorry Laura Mae (Hudson) McGorry, 68, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Laura was born in Burlington, NJ. She grew up with her parents and 8 sib- lings in Pemberton, NJ. She graduated from Pemberton Township High School. After graduating high school she married her best friend, Thomas McGorry. They were blessed with 3 children and 49 years of marriage. She worked for ARC in Hainesport, NJ and also for many years as a CNA in a nursing home in Pemberton, NJ. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Thomas of Shelby; daughter Jennifer Kayser (Timothy) of Norwich, CT; daughter Stephanie Webb (Bobby) of Shelby; and son Thomas McGorry (Lesta) of Browns Mills, NJ, 6 grandchildren, as well as several siblings, nieces and nephews. Rebecca Ann Pope Rebecca Ann Piercy Pope, age 84, of Bostic, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 31, 2023. Becky was born March 30, 1939 in Rutherford County to the late Lloyd and Edith Piercy. She was a graduate of Tri-High School. Becky worked for the Carolina Shoe Factory in Morganton for 38 years and for Walmart for 15 years. She was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by a sister Emile Piercy Marquez and an infant son. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Benjamin Charles Pope; sis- ter-in-law, Mary Lou Pope Turner and brother-in-law, Floyd Waters. Loving mem- ories will also be shared by a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Saoirse Mae Miller Saoirse Mae Miller, infant daughter of Brandon and Tabitha Miller, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023. Frances Kaye Ruff Gold Frances Kaye Ruff Gold, 89 of Rutherfordton, NC passed from this life into eternal rest on September 1, 2023. Kaye was born along with her twin sister, Faye on July 25, 1934 to James Ellis Ruff and Dulcie (Dot) Cunningham Ruff in Rutherfordton. She was a life-long member of Second Baptist Church. In the early years of her adult life she met and married William Daniel (Bill) Gold. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents Ellis and Dot Ruff, a brother Bill Ruff and a sister, Bobbie Murray. Survivors include a son, William Scott Gold and wife Susan of Durham; M. Barry Gold and husband, Greg of Tryon and two grandchil- dren. Also surviving are her siblings, Faye Ruff Bridges and husband Robert of Kernersville, and Linda Ruff Dowell and husband, Skip of Rutherfordton, and numer- ous nieces and nephews. There will be a private interment September 7 and a memorial service at 2pm September 19 at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Keith Stephenson of Second Baptist Church offi- ciating. Arnold Warren Beaver Arnold Warren Beaver age 63 of Rutherfordton, NC passed away August 27th 2023. Arnold was the son of the late Russell Lee Beaver and Frances Kathleen Coffey Beaver Austin. Left to cherish his mem- ory are his children Chassitty Beaver, and Joshua Beaver; siblings Arlin Beaver, Dale Austin, Dawn Evans, and Myran Beaver; and two grandchildren. James Oren Wilson James Oren Wilson, age 93 of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. He was born August 16, 1929 in Cleveland County to the late Zeb Wilson and the late Lillian Lytle Wilson. He served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1976 and loved to tell war stories to anyone that would listen. According to the family, he was the last remaining vet- eran in Rutherford County that served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam. He enjoyed playing golf, going to the Tartan restaurant in Linville, reading about history, writ- ing poems and visiting son in Wisconsin. James also enjoyed working on claims and interacting with staff at local VA office and was a Shriner of the 32nd Scottish rite, Pearl City, Hawaii. He is survived by his sons; Brian Wilson of Rutherfordton, and Darryl Wilson and wife Kris of Minocqua, WI, niece Susie Morgan and husband David of Inman, SC. Former wife Sandra Spicer of Portage, WI. In addition to his par- ents, James was preceded in death by his sister Mary Wilson. Graveside services were held August 12 at Cliffside Cemetery with Rev. Mike Elgin officiating. Military honors were accord- ed by Rutherford County Honor Guard. Obituaries Obituaries Obituaries Obituaries The Town of Forest City and Forest City Fire Rescue are hosting the 22nd annual 9/11 service on Monday, Sept. 11 at the Park on Pavilion Square (POPS) in Forest City. The event begins at 8:30am with an emergency vehicle display and at 9am commemorative music. Opening remarks will be made at 10am followed by the posting of the Colors, National Anthem, prayer and speech. Closing remarks are expected to be at 11am. Emergency vehicles will remain on display. Town offi cials and Fire & Rescue leaders will attend the service and will offer remarks. Everyone is encouraged attend the event to remember all who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 when America was attacked by terrorists.
