Animated sitcom "Archer" returns Wednesday, Aug. 30, to FXX for its 14th and final season. This season, Lana Kane, voiced by "The Last Thing He Told Me" star Aisha Tyler, takes the lead of the spy agency as it bounces back from last season's narrow escape. After the series debut on FX in 2009, "Archer" quickly be- came a sensation because of its slick, "Mad Men" style of animation paired with outra- geous comedy at the expense of serious spy dramas and be- loved film and TV antiheroes. The series revolves around In- ternational Secret Intelligence Service agent Sterling Archer, voiced by H. Jon Benjamin ("Bob's Burgers"), whose re- lentless narcissism is his defin- ing feature. The rest of the voice cast in- cludes Judy Greer ("White House Plumbers") as office as- sistant Cheryl Tunt; Chris Par- nell ("Inside Amy Schumer") as agency multitool Cyril Fig- gis; Amber Nash ("How to Ruin the Holidays" 2023) as ques- tionably ready for field work HR director Pam Poovey; series creator Adam Reed ("Frisky Dingo") as agent Ray Gillette; Lucky Yates ("Frisky Dingo") as engineer Algernop Krieger; and Natalie Dew ("The Capture") as a new agent joining The Agency this season, Zara Khan. According to the official de- scription for "Archer" Season 14 from FXX, with Lana in the driver's seat this time, her "goal is to make money while also making the world a better place, but she quickly finds out running a spy agency isn't so cut and dry." One of the last times that the members of The Agency were cut loose, they became a cartel to fund them- selves, and with that course of action off the table, The Agency has to find some more legiti- mate ways to make do-good money. Fans of "Archer" will know that anything else could possi- bly be on the table, though, given how the series has his- torically taken advantage of its animated medium. Three sea- sons of the series took place in different imagined worlds from Archer's coma dreams, com- pletely removed from the world of the intelligence agen- cy. Season 8 marked the show's first season airing on FXX and saw the team in Archer's 1947 Dreamland, a Los Angeles noir. The following two sea- sons were set on an island on the cusp of the 1940s and aboard a spaceship. While the 10th season of "Archer" was the last with se- ries creator and voice cast member Reed as full-time showrunner, he shared ahead of that season's premiere that no idea was too far out to not include in the brainstorm. When asked by The A.V. Club about the best/worst season theme idea, Reed said, "I wanted them to all work at a fast-casual restaurant called Archerbees. That was prob- lematic for a whole bunch of reasons, but I think we could have done an OK job with it." With a team that could po- tentially make a meal out of "Archerbees," there really is no telling where the final sea- son of such an adventurous sitcom with regular unexpect- ed twists will end up. While no guest actors have been an- nounced yet for the upcoming season, "Archer" boasts some serious stars among its guest voice actor roster. Bryan Cran- ston ("Your Honor"), Jon Hamm ("Good Omens") and Christian Slater ("Fleishman Is in Trouble") have all voiced characters there to throw a wrench in The Agency's plans. FXX is home to another long-running sitcom, in fact, "It's Always Sunny In Philadel- phia" holds the record as the longest-running live-action American sitcom, having sur- passed the family sitcom "The Adventures of Ozzie and Har- riet" when it aired its 15th season. The 16th season pre- miered this June and the se- ries is renewed through its 18th season. The rest of the FXX original series roster in- cludes the semi-autobio- graphical sitcom "Dave" and the adult animated sitcom "Little Demon." Get ready to join in on one last mission when "Archer" re- turns for lucky season No. 14. Two brand-new episodes air on FXX on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Episodes stream the next day on Hulu. World's greatest spy: 'Archer' returns for final season featurestory Ray Gillette, Sterling Archer, Pam Poovey and Zara Kahn in "Archer"
