We typically look terri- fied, and are holding the lap bar for dear life. However, it never fails that a stranger who was sitting behind us looks as calm as a clear sky and is hold- ing his hands up like it was a walk in the park. I always wonder how the person was able to remain poised when the picture is usually snapped during the most intense part of the ride. There are situations in life that are very difficult and can cause us to be un- nerved and overwhelmed but God's word reveals how to be brave and peaceful during the storms of life. Praise: A Powerful Tool If we are honest, most of us complain, become angry at God, or beg him to change the situation immediately when we are dealing with challeng- ing circumstances. However, when we learn to put our focus on the goodness of God and begin to praise him for who he is, he will strengthen us. Ha- bakkuk 3:17-19 (AMP) says, "Though the fig tree does not blossom, And there is no fruit on the vines, Though the yield of the olive fails And the fields produce no food, Though the flock is cut off from the fold And there are no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will [choose to] rejoice in the LORD; I will [choose to] shout in exulta- tion in the [victorious] God of my salvation! The Lord GOD is my strength [my source of courage, my invincible army]; He has made my feet [steady and sure] like hinds' feet And makes me walk [forward with spiritual confidence] on my high places [of challenge and responsibility]." Ways to Praise There are many ways to show adoration to God in- cluding dancing, playing in- struments, and singing. The following scriptures present other examples of how we can praise God: Proclamation - Hebrews 13:15 "Through Jesus, there- fore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name." Lift up our Hands - Lam- entations 3:41 "We lift up our heart and hands toward God in heaven;" Live a Surrendered, Praiseworthy LIfe to Christ - Matthew 5:16 - "In the same way, let your light shine be- fore others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." PRAY THIS PRAYER: "I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great are you Lord, and greatly to be praised, and your great- ness is unsearchable. You are my light and my salva- tion. You are the strength o f my life. Help me to remember with great confidence that you are deeply concerned about me. You will cause all things to work together as a plan for good for me, because I love you and I am called according to your plan and purpose. In Jesus' name, I pray - Amen."
