His journey is one of the most interesting and thrilling stories found in the bible and spans over 13 years of his life. It be- gins with a beautiful, colorful robe and a lovely dream. Gen- esis 37:3, 5-7 (NLT), "...one day Jacob had a special gift made for Joseph—a beautiful robe. One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. "Listen to this dream," he said. "We were out in the field, tying up bundles of grain. Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine!" He never imagined that what started so wonderfully for him would end up becoming a bumpy rollercoaster ride full of many twists and turns. FAITHFUL GOD Joseph's brothers were jealous of him to the point that they planned to murder him. However, they decided to get rid of him instead, and they sold him into slavery. If that wasn't enough trouble for him, his master's wife lied on him, and he was thrown into prison for several years. In addition, he used his God-given gift to accurately interpret the cup- bearer's dream who was also in prison with him. Joseph asked the cupbearer to not for- get about him when he became restored to his position. How- ever, a couple of years passed before the cupbearer remem- bered him. Joseph was lonely, rejected, betrayed, forgotten, and stuck in prison. Through all of these loops, ups, and downs, God didn't forget Jo- seph and he showed him his faithfulness. Genesis 39:20b- 23 (NIV) "But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showe d him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden…." NEVER ALONE Eventually, Joseph over- came all of the challenges; the cupbearer finally remembere d Joseph when Pharaoh needed a very important and disturb- ing dream interpreted. Pha- raoh was so impressed with Joseph's gift and wisdom tha t he made him the head man in charge only second to Pha- raoh. But the saga doesn' t end there, Joseph was reunited with his brothers and doting father. He forgave them and saved the nation. Genesis 50:20 (NLT), "You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people." There are many lessons we can glean from Joseph's life, however, the main takeaway is no matter how rough life gets, God is always with us. We are never alone.
