Did you know that Seniors are the fastest growing age group in California and the United States? And that Santa Cruz County has THE HIGHEST growth rate among all California counties, while San Benito county is the third highest! Our care for elders is more important now than ever. Senior Legal Services (SLS) opened its first office in 1972 in order to serve senior citizens and address their unique problems. Senior community activists believed that the elderly needed and deserved a program designed to meet their special needs. The office quickly became a model project for the creation of hundreds of similar law offices for older people throughout the country. For over 50 years, SLS has worked to develop expertise in legal problems that relate to aging. Emphasizing legal issues in: • Medicare and Medi-Cal • Health Insurance • Elder Abuse including Financial Abuse and Fraud • Social Security & SSI • Age Discrimination • Consumer Problems, and Chapter 7 Bankruptcy • Debt Collection • Mobile-home Issues • Tenant Rights • Nursing Homes, Residential Care Where is SLS located? SLS has three offices. Our main office is located in Santa Cruz and branch offices are located in Watsonville and Hollister. Who is eligible for services? Residents of Santa Cruz and San Benito counties may receive SLS services. Services are available to persons who are at least age 60. While eligibility does not depend on a client's income and assets, SLS attempts to direct its limited resources towards seniors who have the greatest social and economic needs. Clinics are offered every other Tuesday from 1pm to 4:30pm. Our clinics for August will take place on August 15th and August 29th. Please drop-in or call for an appointment.
