Mientras tanto, María Flores de 65 años de edad y residente de Shafter, platicó a El Popular que al llegar a esta edad ella se siente sola, ya que su esposo falleció hace tres años y en su hogar, ya nadie la toma en cuenta "somos como un cero a la izquierda, en ocasiones me salgó para ver si puedo platicar con alguien o tan solo para ver personas que caminan por ahí". Cuando una persona que perdió a su esposa o esposo se ve retraída, callada, sin ganas de comer o realizar alguna otra actividad hay que poner atención porque puede ser que se esté deprimiendo de más y esto le puede causar depresión traumática que puede derivar en otras consecuencias de salud. Es importante tener en cuenta que las personas mayores pueden llegar a sufrir abuso de diferentes formas, el maltrato y el abuso puede sucederle a cualquier persona, sin importar la edad, el sexo, la raza, la religión, o el origen étnico o cultural de la persona. En el contexto de apoyar a los adultos mayores en Kern el Departamento de la Tercera Edad de California administra los servicios de Información y Referen- cia financiados por la Ley Federal de Estadounidenses de Edad Avanzada y los dólares del fondo general del Estado a través de una red de 33 Agencias de Área para la Tercera Edad y sus proveedores de servicios, informa en su página web.
