Betty was born Tuesday, June 2, 1936 in Lockhart, SC to the late Matthew Hopper Wright and Gillie Jeanette Hamm Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jamup" Pruett; a grandson; a brother, William R. Wright; and sisters, Annie Mae McCraw, Athaleen Snipes, Mabel Rudisell, Beulah Fisher, Irene Fowler and Wilma Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Joni Pannell (Cos) of Dobbinsville and Jill Baker (Johnny) of Polk County; son, Jimmy Pruett (Donna) of Ellenboro; sis- ter, Sadie Rabb of Spindale; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held July 14th at High Shoal Baptist Church with Reverend Shane Adkins and Reverend Eugene Passmore officiating. Interment fol- lowed at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. ANN BROOKS Ann Brooks, age 69, of Mooresboro, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023. Ann was born Tuesday, November 24, 1953 in Rutherford County to the late Dorothy Blackwell Spicer. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her father, James Spicer and several brothers and sis- ters. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Brooks (Shannon), Jessie Brooks (Sharon) and Donnie Brooks (Chasity) all of Mooresboro; brother, Jr. Spicer of Ruth and sisters, Ruthie Spicer of Mooresboro, Cathy Phillips of Mooresboro and Punnie Wilson of Rutherfordton; six grandchildren and thirteen MARY SMITH WRIGHT Mary Smith Wright, 75, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on July 12, 2023. She was born in Cleveland County, NC, daughter of the late Frank and Virginia Allen Smith and was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Smith. Mary is survived by her husband, Leonard Wright; children: Cynthia Wood (Jacob Slay), Timothy Wright (Anita), and Lisa Cash (William); sister: Shelia Ervin; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchil- dren. Born February 25, 1939, in Rutherford County, Sara was the daughter of the late George Columbus Black and Lillie Mae Brooks Black and was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Black and a sister, Hazel Smith. A native of Gaston County, she was born on February 4, 1929, daughter of the late Joseph Cephas and Rose Isabella Hannon Grissom. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Farle Lee Lail, a son William Lail, brothers John, Arthur, Brady, Joe Frank, Lloyd, Marshall, Charles and Graham Grissom and sister Arpy Cox. She leaves behind her son, Jerry Wayne Emery, of Blacksburg; two step- children, Gary Emery and Sandy Lesueur; one sister, Janice Goforth, of Gaffney; two grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
