Jim Koury is a seeker of personal truth, and desires to empower oth- ers to find their own personal truth, whatever it may be. He is also an ac vist who is not afraid to speak his mind, and ruffle some feath- ers, if necessary. His main objec ve is to get people to think and think for themselves. He espouses Aristotle's mantra, "It is the mark of an educated mind to en- tertain a thought without accep ng it." Jim does not force his views on others but just puts them out there for folks to think about and discard if they wish. Welcome to the July issue of Diversity Rules Maga- zine. We are in the thick of summer now, so hope you are enjoying it. It goes fast, so make the best of it. This month Diversity Rules Magazine welcomes poet Suzanne Nielsen in an interview done by Paul San- chez. Suzanne reflects on the passage of the Ameri- cans With Disabili es Act (ADA). On July 26 disabled people all over the USA will no doubt be celebra ng the 33rd anniversary of the passage of the ADA. The landmark legisla on affords people with disabili es protec ons from discrimi- na on in housing, employment, and all public ac- commoda ons. The ADA also requires employers to provide reasonable accommoda ons to people with disabili es and imposes accessibility requirements on public accommoda ons Suzanne Nielsen, who resides in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul twin ci es area, states that July 26 is indeed a day to celebrate. Nielsen lives with what is known as invisible disabili es—to look at her you'd never know that she was disabled, Yet for over half a cen- tury she has lived with chronic depression. She is also hearing impaired and is a breast cancer survivor. I hope you enjoy Suzanne's input and perspec ves on this very important piece of legisla on that has helped countless Americans deal with their disabili- es. As usual, this month's issue contains a lot of great ar- cles and features. I hope you enjoy them, as much as I enjoy bringing them to you. As a final thought, as Pride Month came to a close, the conserva ve majority on the Supreme Court handed down a number of decisions which em- power our detractors and lessens minority rights in our great na on. The court struck down Affirma ve Ac on, and further allowed business owners to dis- criminate against LGBTQ individuals. The SCOTUS wrecking ball is complete for this year. God only knows what these repugnant jus ces will do in the future. Marriage rights, contracep on, etc, etc... all fair with these grotesque people. Court precedent is HISTORY. They are burning the place to the ground. Get ANGRY people. STAY ANGRY. Take that anger to your local polling place and send the theocra c governing crowd a clear and resounding message. Vote against them. Burn the GOP to the ground first. We can do it, if we persist, and stay vigilant. We need to save our naton from these repugnant religious zealots. Stay focused, and see you in August. My Two Cents A Message From The Editor James R. Koury, Editor/Publisher Diversity Rules Magazine | July 2023 | 3
