Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin Thomas and Viola Pitchford Davis. In addition to her parents, Mary Jo is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Turner, Jr.; son, Jerry Dwayne Turner; and sister, Burnette Blanton. She is survived by her daughters, Amelia Turner Loomis (Bryan) and Lynn Turner Maloney and hus- band, John; her sisters, Dot Reynolds and husband Malcolm and Faye Honeycutt and husband Jason; brother, Tom Davis (Becky); son- in-law, John Hamrick; four grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held June 18, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Rash officiating. Burial followed in Polkville Baptist Church Cemetery. Phillip was born Wednesday, September 10, 1986 to Phil and Sue Mace who reside in Ellenboro. In addition to his parents, survivors include his daugh- ter, Lola Catherine Mace of the home; and sister, Elizabeth "Sissy" Mace of Ellenboro. HAROLD VAUGHN McCRACKEN H a r o l d " V a u g h n " McCracken, 81, of Cherryville, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023. Vaughn was born in Haywood County on October 10, 1941 to Blake Andrew and Mora Jane McCracken. Mr. McCracken served our country in the U.S. Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Laurine McCracken; daughters, Nancy Rogers and husband, Ron and LaVonda Sherrill and hus- band, Jerry; five grandchil- dren; and four great-grand- children. Born May 12, 1934, in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy Phillips Bolton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Northrup. Left to cherish fond memo- ries is his wife, Hazel Herr Bolton; three sons: Steve Burgess (Kim) of Ridgeway, Virginia, Craig Bolton (Brenda) and Keith Bolton, both of Shelby; four grand- children; and two great- grandchildren. Robert was born Saturday, January 10, 1959 in Gaston County, NC to the late Clarence Garfield Ray, Sr. and Barbara Morrison Ray. Mr. Ray served our country in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was pre- ceded in death by his brothers, Garland "Spider" Ray, Clarence "Wormy" Ray, Jr., Ned "Wineo" Ray and a sister, Elaine Tedder. Those left to cherish fond memories include his two sons, Rob Ray (Brooklyn) of Ellenboro and Thomas Ray of Shelby, NC; brothers, David McDonald of Salisbury, NC, Dale Ray of Hendersonville, Ricky McDonald of Forest City; and a sister, Katie Cooper of Kings Mountain; and three grandchildren. A funeral gathering was held June 21st at Harrelson Funeral Home. An interment ceremony for the immediate family followed at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. He was born in Kings Mountain on November 19, 1939, to the late John Mearl and Evelyn Wright Scism. He was also preceded in death by brother, Haskel Scism. He is survived by his wife, Becky; children: Roxanne Scism Bridges and hus- band, John, Lynn Scism and wife Cam, and Carla Scism Parham; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Don Scism and wife, Susan; and sister-in-law, Ann Scism. In addition to her par- ents, Gwen is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Stephen Turner, and broth- er, Jimmy Lovelace. She is survived by her three children: Karin Turner Cook and husband Clinton; Mark Stephen Turner and wife Miranda; and Allison Turner Durbin and husband Kenneth; her sister, Sue Lovelace McLamb Rippy; and eight grandchildren.
